memory speed compatability question

i have 512 megabytes of pc2100 ram in my computer (133 mhz). my moms laptop has 256 MB of pc2300 (147mhz or something like that). they are both old compaq presario computers, i have a 2.4 -4, she has an athlon XP 1700+. since i have a new sager on the way i was gonna give her my 512 and make her laptop not suck as much. since hers is faster (yes, less mem, hers is a year older, but hers is faster. wtf), if i switch them, will her computer clock down to run at the pc2100 speeds or try to run at 2300 and fry something? will it clock down automatically or do i have to do something in the bios somewhere? if it clocks down, will just the memory run slower or will everything tied to the FSB (cpu) run slower as well? any quick responses will be greatly appreciated, she's visiting and goes home tomorrow afternoon
