WTT: 3.06 for 2.4

I give up. The 3.06 is just too hot in the 5660.

I want to trade my SL6S5 for a 2.4b(? whatever the 533buss one is) and cash or something else to even up the deal.

By something else I mean a power brick, car adaptor, primary and/or secondary battery for the 5660(same on all 56xx I believe).

I can have this deal done in a heartbeat on a few of the other forums I deal with a lot, thought I'd see if anyone happened to have any of the stuff I could use laying around to add to the dea.

I can provide references a plenty, and I would need the 2.4 first as this is my only comp anymore. Thanks..

Ramses, I'm sorry to hear that you didnt get rid of your heat problems Have you read this post? Now my lappy is really cool Also, I'm curious about your voltage rating, it is marked on the cpu. The higher rating, the more heat it produces. I have no marks which means it is multi rated, and it adjusts the voltage to how much it needs. Maybe thats why my 5660 is running cool.

Interisting post, and no there are no voltage specs on my CPU, so I assume it's a lower voltage model. Looking at the theremal info from intel though, the 3.06 is just plain hot and power hungry compared to the 2.4.

I was gameing last night for about six hours, and hard use while charging the battery apparently triped a thermal protection in the power brick or something, it kicked off and had to be unplugged to reset. I'm sick of messing with it. I can run every game that runs decent on this mobility 9000 with your throttling program set to 50%, so I figure a 2.4 should be suffecient untill I can afford to send it off to be ugraged.

It was an interisting experience, and I'm still looking foreward to your all in one program whenever you get it done enough to be released.

Ramses, one final question, what are your normal ambient temperature? I usually have about 20 C indoors. Do you live in a warm temperature zone? That could explain the temperature differences.

It's warm overall here in the south, but practicaly all of my testing was done in 23C or below temps. However I'm of the belief that a computer should be able to function under 100% load in much, much harsher conditions. That just isnt going to happen in this case. Take the other night for example, I was at a usual place of coffee and such with a friend, gameing for a long time. There was at LEAST a 15 degree swing in temps between our getting there at 8pm and leaving at 4am or so.
I was sweating on my keyboard at times, it was probibly 26 to 29 C in there at the time. Any comp that's going to keep up with me simply has to be able to slog through that and not miss a beat. I've run quad Xeon boxes in 35 C rooms under pretty much constant load and they never missed a beat, because of an Intel aproved theremal solution. There's a lot of difference between that and a laptop, but the principle is the same.

Deal is done, posted to Anandtech forums and had a 2.4b and $60 for my 3.06 inside 5 minutes. Hopefully THIS will make this thing run tolerably cool..

I'll miss hyperthreading, but hey, that's what the upgrade package is for..
