Just as a late comer to this thread, I tried out a lot of External LCD monitors when I first got my 8890 - specifically those that supported the DVI connector.

Of all the models I tested only the Samsung 173T and 191T models even came close to anything I would actually buy. Most other models from a wide range of manuf. just did not have the contrast ratio, viewing angle and ease of use that the two Samsung models did. Given I want to match my SXGA laptop monitor I would highly recommend the 191T (I am about to buy one rsn - real soon now).

The 173T is a 17" wide screen if you are interested.

I bought the 191t last summer and I paid about $1100 for it. i do not regret a single cent. now it can be had for about $600. I am tempted to pick up another one.

go for it!

I just noticed Samsung has released a new version of the 191T called the 193T. It has the same specs except that the contrast ratio is now 750:1 rather than 500:1 in the 191T. From what I can tell the price difference is only $50. I will have to go and check it out.
