I know that it will be a little slower but how much is the real question. I was looking at getting the Acer TravelMate 4402WLMi as it seems to be a good performer and get bang for the buck but i want to know how much of a perfromance hit am i going to take with just 64 megs on the vid card?

I have this memory installed in my Inspiron 14R. 6gb (one 2gb & one 4gb). Great performance! I highly recommend Kingston.

Now if we could enable hypermemory on the TravelMate 4402WLMi things should change for the better.- super strokey

If there's a difference, its probably in the clock speeds. The Ferrari is a tried and true gaming laptop, whereas the TravelMate is a more general purpose notebook. If you matched clock speeds, the 3DMark03 scores should be a lot closer. Regardless of how you look at it, the cores are the same, its just the amount of memory that it has at its disposal...

it seems that a 64mb x700 is quite inhibited compared to a 128mb x700, considering 3dmark05 anyway. i have a 1694wlmi with a 2.0ghz P-M, 1GB ram, and 64mb x700, and the most ive managed to get in 3dmark05 is around 1700 with the new catalyst 5.8's. however I see other posts here, even with people who have a 1.6ghz P-M with a 128mb x700, that get around 2300 or so on 3dmark05.
so the 64mb of memory must be a substantial bottleneck when it comes to extremely intensive graphics like 3dmark05. but i guess in games at present, they're not demanding enough to see that much of a difference? i never knew VRAM was that significant though, cause 600 or 700 3dmarks is quite a difference.
im curious what other owners of 64mb x700's are scoring in 3dmark05? just to make sure somethin isnt screwy with my laptop

At default my aspire 1691 X700 64mb only scores 1700 in 3DMark05 so does seem pretty much memory limited in 3DMark05
Pushing it nearly to its limits sees 2166 in 3DMark05 6600 in 3DMark03 & 18300 3DMark01se thats also with the cpu up to 1.9GHz from 1.6GHz default
The latest CATs 5.8 seemed to give a good boost in 05 though

thanks dutch, thats about the same as me
redmumba....the results im comparing to arent the ferrari, its other laptops like aspires or travelmates that have the same clock frequencies but 128meg of VRAM. so, since all other factors are essentially the same, the differentiating factor must be the onboard memory, i just never thought it'd be that significant. but i guess it makes sense, if the x700 can process textures faster than it can put them through to the monitor due to the lack of onboard memory, then its a significant bottleneck.
