LCD for rev d PB

Thread Starter
I have a rev d powerbook (1.5,515,64 vid) and am looking for a good LCD screen in the 200- low 300 range. What would people suggest to buy, so far I am leaning towards this screen since it is a 19 inch with 8ms rating http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824179014 or the 17 inch http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824179015 but I dont think the 17 had DVI

Has anyone used these screens before or know of any other good low priced LCDs I could use for the usual computing stuff in addition to some games (unrealtornament or medal of honor)? thanks a bunch!

Would definitely go 19" if you can swing it. Check out Tom's Hardware for LCD reviews. Do make sure you check to see if the 19" has DVI also - some of the Hyundai and Samsung monitors don't.

You can also find some good deals on the Viewsonics - I use the 8ms Viewsonic 191b and it's great. This may be available cheap, since they have come out with a 4ms version. Note that I've had no issues with 8ms, and believe even 12-16ms response times will be fine for gaming.

Are you opposed to owning a brand that doesnt match the Apple?? If not, Dell has the 2001's and 2005's on special regularly with coupons. Most can be had for around 3 bills shipped. The thing is getting the right combinable coupons at the right time. That takes a bit of research though.

Be careful with the rated response times, though. A lot of them are just based on their own set of criteria for "response time", like gray-to-gray or w/e else there is. For example, I don't think there's a true 4ms LCD panel out there that exists, according to how everyone used to measure response times. The fastest ones out there have an "old-school" response time of 8ms, I believe. Anyways, my i9300's WUXGA LCD screen has a response time of 25ms, I think, which is what's also in the XPS Gen 2. That's good enough for gaming. I think it limits you to being able to see 40fps with your eye, max (basically: 1 divided by 0.040 seconds per transition = 40 transitions per second = 40 frames per second).
