Well, 6 months after I got my E1705, I hosed the Windows install and all data. Of course I didn't back anything up, but I have vowed to buy (and use) Acronis True Image
this time. It will be an excuse to buy an enormous external HDD.
I remembered this thread, and I hated Dell's bloatware install. My greatest regret was not reformatting and reinstalling when it first arrived, instead of doing the decrapifyer thing. But I started installing stuff and I got too invested in it to reformat. There were always issues with the install, even though I seemed to pull everything off. One thing I could never fix is changing that gawddamned Dell/Google startup page in IE. I tried everything suggested in every thread, every registry hack. Even after upgrading to IE 7, I still couldn't get around it. I think Dell gets a commission from Google every time that page loads (I know Firefox does). Bastards!
My lappy was never as responsive and stable as my personal XP installs on other computers. Anyway, now is my chance to do the Windows install right, assuming Dell sends me the right disks.
