Thank you bargainseeker. I already saw those pics but was hoping to see pictures from a system other than the illustrative one. The specifications page was great.

EDIT pictures removed from website. I will not help ebay scammers.
hey this may sound like a really stupid question, but hey, o well.

in 3dmark03, do i need to register, as in pay for pro, to change settings? Or am i just just missing it?

Thanks Kwick7!

I should be getting mine on Friday (already took the day off from work) and I can't wait!

Good to hear that you have not encountered any issues!

Have fun with your new toy.

Thank You

kWICK7,
THANK YOU FOR THE PICS. THAT SCREEN LOOKS AMAZING!
WOW! I really can't wait. Mine is scheduled to arrive Dec. 9th and I ordered it only a day after you. does anyone know why i have to wait almost two weeks? is that normal leadtime?

Anyway congratulations with your wonderful machine.

Tony,

I put in my order on November 25 and the original "due" date was December 9 as well. Gateway did, however, complete the order on November 28 already, but because UPS did not do pick-ups that Friday/Saturday, it only shipped out last Monday and I should have it by Friday the latest.

Probably stupid question, but have you checked the "track my order" feature on the Gateway website? Maybe it is already on its way too.

Hoping you get it soon as well.

Thanks for your reply. I already checked the website and it stills says that it is being manufactured. Hmmm. Which model did you order, the M505x otr the M505XL?
I ordered the XL so i'm thinking that maybe it ahs to do with the model. maybe they have the M505x already built.
Nope, I have the XL as well.

Sorry

Hum... I ordered the XL (on the 28th) and mine is set to arrive the 9th too.
Thanks for the pics... It makes me anxious for mine!

emtownsend,
can you go to the gateway website and track your order? i would like to know if they give you the same mesasage I am getting.
When i track my order the system says that my order is being fulfillled in their manufacturing facility. I have seen the same message for about 4 days now. I would appreciate it.

thanks.

kwick7,

I like totally envy you brother! Good for you, it seems like an awesome machine. I have been playing all the latest direct x 9 games on a 128mb NVIDIA Geforce 4200ti, which is a way older card compared to the 9600, they all seem to work fine, at least at default settings. I can go up a notch as well when i feel like it. The 9600's performance is way better than any geforce card on direct x9 games, so i guess i'll be good for some time, and if not, then i guess i don't have to play HALO!!! I'm going to order the XL tonight. And as soon as i get it, i'll give you feedback. I'm probably not going to see it till the beginning of the new year since i live in Asia but have family visiting the the US right now, they'll be bringing it back with them. So i'm going to die for the next 25 days or so, i'll die a bit everyday waiting for my babe. Actually, even if it totally sux, which i'm 100% sure it won't, i can put it up on my mantle piece, and it'll be a really expensive decoration piece So i'm hoping i can't go wrong.

I was wondering if you could let me know if you've experienced any stretching while playing games, since it is a widescreen display. Do you have any black bars on the screen, does it look odd?

Thanks,
Rao

rao-

I never really noticed stretching.... i'm sure its there, but i'll make a point to focus on it. I remember playing games on my last laptop, a vpr matrix (which I bought open box at best buy for $900 for some rediculously cheap reason, then sold on ebay for $1600 ), and stretching never really bothered me. I'll play some more halo and calll of duty and whatnot later, thursday some time.

I think you will definately love this notebook. I really love it. You can't go wrong with a great video card and 4-5 hours of battery life!

I'll let you know about the stretching, I really haven't noticed it so far. And I haven't seen black bars yet either.

kwick7,

Thanks for the very prompt reply.

I think you have already answered my question. If you haven't noticed stretching already, then it probably doesn't stretch to an extent where it becomes obstrusive. I am also aware that there are hacks availale to combat the phenomenon. If you need help in this area let me know. I'll try and get you some links, try them and see if it makes a difference.

Yet another Guy Jumping on the bandwagon

After playing with the M505X at my local Gateway and reading your guys great reviews. I couldnt help but join you guys. I ordered my very own M505XL last night. I cant wait.
Hey Tonypolanco,
First, sorry for the delay...
Mine shows, "Your order was completed on 11/28/03. You should receive it in 3-5 business days".

Did you click on the details button below? Mine is still on schedule for tomorrow.
Try calling Mimi Hibbs @ 18008462000 Ext. 53198
She was working on my order, maybe she can help you find out what is going on. I would bet it is something to do with payment. Mine stalled for a day when they couldn't get the price of the laptop right and Gateway financing put a hold on the order.
Good luck with this. I would call and raise kane...

Gaming

I have played Call of Duty and various other games on this maching and I really have not noticed any stretching. Everything looks awesome to me. Do you guys think that it'll be able to run the newer games like Half Life 2 and Doom 3?

Replace wifi?

I will delve into my M505XL when it arrives, but I was wondering if anyone has some advanced info on whether or not one can replace the modem, which is in the miniPCI slot (http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/...54faq112.shtml), with an 802.11g miniPCI card.
I am also trying to find whether or not the built in 802.11b is in a miniPCI spot or just on the motherboard.
If all else fails, I will just go with a PC Card solution; but I would rather go integrated.
Thanks!

Icelroca,

Thanks for your answer to my question about games stretching on 15.4 WXGA. I'm glad that there isn't any noticeable stretching, actually I am delighted.

Looks like this is going to be a system made for a niche market like ourselves. I could not think about getting a 2 inch think beast like some of the P4 solutions. I needed something i could look at and fall in love with, and something that could manage day to day office work and gaming to a large extent as well. While a Centrino is not the best solution for gaming, it is a great solution for battery life and office work. I do no intense graphics work. Enter the 505XL, beautiful, awesome sound, great form factor, centrino, 9600 graphics, (i think the slot load is wicked too), battery life, sweet keyboard. Need i say more?

Someone on this thread (sorry, i forget who) asked if it would be possible to play half life 2 or doom 3. I asked the same question a little while back. These games will play best at settings which require about 80mb of textures, the GPU on the 505 has maximum support of 64mb of RAM. You will be able to play these games fine, just not at the highest settings from what i understand. Anyone else want to chime in? I would have loved the 128mb M10 option, but i guess all good things must come to an end. The first of the affordable lappies with the 128mb option are not going to be available until mid January. I honestly cannot wait that long knowing that the 505XL is out there already. The Vodoo M460 is available for sale with a 128mb m10pro option, but costs a rediculous $4000. I'd rather get myself a pair of Martin Logan floorstanding full range speakers with that amount.

Kwick7 played Call of Duty with full graphics, and this has more or less got me sold.

Odering mine today, M505XL.

Kwick7- or any other owner, do you recieve a carrying case (bag) with it, and is it any good? Or do you have to order one seperately? If so, any suggestions?

Kwick7- How did Thursday's gaming session with the M505X go?
