Gateway M505XL - Page 44

its funny you found that bargainseeker, it always looked to me like the sub was just a "module" that could easily (relatively) be swapped. If anyone has any further info on this I would greatly like to know about it. I dont think my sub even works (never turned it on, and when I did I hear nothing,...... emailing Gateway about that now) and I really have no interest in having a sub. A second battery or hard drive would be so great.

And I agree with you on their laptops. Never would I have bought a Gateway until I saw this sweet baby. Now they have absolutely nothing interesting at all.

I agree with you guys. I don't like any Gateway Notebook that they currently have. I love my Gateway M505XL because it is a beauty and love the sub-woofer.

Agree with the never would have bought a Gateway comments above.
I was literally knocked out by the M505x at an Office Depot last Aug.
An amazing machine at any price. Indeed a great portable gaming machine. I was lucky to get mine for 999.
Superb super bright screen(as bright as the Sony A190 series IMHO) Great CPU/GPU that both run below 63/53 C no matter how long and how intense a game I play. Also this front loading DVD/CD is a joy.
My 40 gig HD is almost full now but ahhh nothing is perfect ....

Here is the updated M505 submission that Wistron made to the FCC on 2/18/2004 when they put in Intel's new B/G wireless card. I could be wrong, but I don't see any changes other than the wireless card and the parts of the documentation that apply to it. The FCC ID for this update is PU5MS2146BG.

i checked out the Gateway website..they don't have the 505 laptop there...anyone know where i can find one? or if it'll come out again soon?

I don't think that you can get M505 brand new anywhere. But one can't never say NEVER. If you look around perhaps you can find refurbished somewhere such as from Ubid, Gateway website.

hmm....what alternative should i look for then?
That depends on what you are looking for from M505 series, look, slot loading, sound system w/subwoofer, etc.

For instance, Sager offer a lot of lappies w/good GPU and subwoofer.

You will have to ask yourself those dealbreaker and shop around.

FYI, if you didn't know already. Gateway M505X/XL are 2GB ram MAX, not 1GB.

At about over a year and a half for me. I bought my 505x the day they came out, got it in November (I think) of 2003. Using it right now, in FANTASTIC shape. Well, almost. The 2 usb ports in the back of the machine came lose, I guess from repeatedly putting it down at a bad angle. I just need to screw them back in, but I am feeling super lazy and don't feel like taking it apart. Everything else is soooooo doing great, I am still super impressed with this baby. Getting 3-5 hours depending on what I am doing is awesome.
