changing fan-initiating temperature

i have the fan turn on at 55 C (on CPU) but i want it to start at 50 C

because I want to cool down my harddrive which runs at 55 C

how do i change the settings? BIOS? or some application?

Whether your CPU is at 65, 55, or even 35, it has nothing to do with your HD. The fan is on your CPU, not your HD. So even if your CPU is at a chilled 35C, your HD may already be at 50+. I don't know what system you have, but my HD is enclosed with out it's own fan. I wished there was a HD cooler built-in on it, but oh well. You're HD is fine at 55. Normal operating temps for many Laptop HD's are around 40-65+.

the model of my laptop is Z9000.

here's the pic of the bottom of the case

i've already paid someone to clean the vents but as i watched him, he didn't clean out the vents near the harddrive. I'm not sure if dust is in there.

Since it's going at around 53-56C, should it be a concern? Becuase it's operating temperature is 5-55C.

Would it break down or anything? Or is 5-55C made up cuz they're lazy to check for every model (cuz almost every harddrive is 5-55).

56 is only one degree more than it should run. I'd guess it's not too bad. However, perhaps a reseller would have a suggestion on how to cool it down?

It's not a problem, you shouldn't worry about it. If you want, you can just check what HD you have and go to their website. It'll tell you the normal operating temperatures, stress temperatures, and danger temps. I personally think it's totally normal. You shouldn't be worried.

Madmike23 is right resslers like the hardrives around 40-55C but remeber that Resellers or companys like their centrinos cpu around 40-55C. The centrino can go up to 100C operating temps. As long as your hardrive is within 65C you should be okay.

Well, let's get back to the original question, is there a way to change the trigger temp for the fan?

I don't think so, unless you plan on trying to hack the BIOS.

The fan table is in the BIOS, so unless you can write your own BIOS and you don't care about or are out of your warranty, I would leave it alone.

The others are correct though, having your CPU fan come on earlier won't have any effect on your HDD temperature, and it is within a proper operating range anyway.
