The 6000 should have a long life, as it's a popular system, but it's not one of the powerhouses. The 9300's life should be shorter, as when the new video cards come out, they will probably replace it. I'm guessing they will give the 7800 to the 9300 and the 7800 Ultra or whatever to the XPS Gen 2.
and do you think it might happen before christmas?

19 inches? They talking a 15 pound laptop or something?

Fater than a locomotive, more powerful than a speeding bullet...and heavier than a newborn elephant! It's the Lexus Laptop!

Thats because... hmmm, well... i dont know why.. I hear such horrible things about the quality of HP... Lower than dell, but i guess people buy it more because its convenient I mean... they do sell their laptops at Best buy..
And dell you have to order online, or find the rare Dell store.

So my friend has one of them 17" HP pavilions... that he takes to college... yeah, hes got a 12 cell in it and it lasts 3 hours if hes lucky on a 12 cell... He said that and i laughed... hehe, its a nice looking laptop, but a 12 cell lasting 3 hours... He did not chose his laptop wisely

Don't ask me when it will happen. I'm not even sure it will happen.

Yeah, HP sells a lot of computers to people who know nothing about computers. They can walk into Best Buy, Circuit City, or CompUSA, and 10 minutes later, they can walk out with a brand new computer. I don't see myself ever doing this, unless they just happened to have a sale on a Sony that had the exact features I wanted, but I can understand why people do it.

The 9300 and 6000 are relatively new systems, the 9300 isnt even a year old, not likely to see a replacement for these systems for a while, perhaps when dual cores and 64 bit come out or there is some other major hardware that pops up.

as far as the lexus line of laptops , i bet,now dont hold me to it, but i bet it will simply be a nameing scheme, as for 19 inch notebook, gotta realize that the market for those is maby 3% of the consumer market, mabt 12% professional market... i dont think dell will have a 19 inch notebook, if they do , its going to be very eXPenSive

Common myth 1 )

there is no dell store, there is no place you can buy a new dell, from dell and walk out with it from a store, they simply do not exist. i have heard people saying they are rare, but they just dont exist period.

common myth 2) prices online are better than at DDS (dell direct store)

you would be supprised how many people swear they got their DHS (dell home systems) PC cheaper through the standard web page, this again, is simply not possible, as DDS uses the standard web page to place orders , sometimes the sales rep can take a chunk off (usualy $100 at the most, or 5% if you go with dell finance), if you have no affiliate coupons , and no epp or small biz access, go to a dell direct store in your local mall and ask if they have a coupon for buying today - the quickest and cheapest way for "joe smith" to get a dell.

common myth 3) cant i just go pick it up from the factory and save the shiping charge?

i dont know if there is a plant neer you , but they just opend one in the county i live in (forsyth county north carolina) and its twice the size of the one in texas. but no, you cant lol

srry , had a long day at work
:::end of rant:::

Well i Think next line of new dell laptop more likely be next year for the new release of intel dual, face it, what would be a better timing? yes i do believe might be some graphic card this fall but unlikely a new model out this fall. Just my 2 Cents
post #29 of 43
Yes, perhaps the "Lexus" line will be released alongside mobile dual core processors, but there should be new systems in the regular Dell line coming this fall. Of course, I don't know that for sure.

I have no idea, dell is tight lipped about such things.
I really wish that newbies would read other peoples posts before asking this whats next from dell question as the very same topic has been covered at least a hundred times, forums are for reading just as much as they are for posting, you guys could try reading some I mean come on, how many new threads do we need on the same dam subject whats coming from dell????
Use your search feature to find other posts that cover this dead end topic.

Actually the opposite is more likely the truth, the 6000 will have a shorter life span, upgrade path is already set for the XPS and 9300. Freak where or what do you pull some of your posts out of??
How is it that you are so confident that the 6000 will have a short life span? It's one of the best selling systems. It's a much better system than the 5150 it replaced.
Cause it was already obselete tech the day it came out. Also, it offers no real price advantages over the 9300 in most situations.

Dell Inspiron XPS ML170 Available at Dell.co.uk

Who says Japan or the USA always gets the good stuff first when it comes to electronics and computers? Not this time, whether Dell UK flubbed or the UK is just ahead of the curve, the next generation Inspiron XPS showed up there first, the XPS M170. Strange thing is, the specs they have posted are precisely the same as the current Inspiron XPS 2. The XPS M170 is supposedly going to have the next generation nVidia Go 7800 GTX card, but that won't be "announced" and available until September 29th, so it's a good job Dell isn't showing it on their site I suppose. Either way, here's a link to this new XPS machine and a screen shot below of the config page. We expect to see this, another XPS and perhaps a new 9000 series Inspiron show up in the next few days and weeks as well.
yeah, seen that. Though the 7800go has recently been delayed until mid-october.

I can't wait that long to figure out what dell wants to charge for the thing, so I'm passing on it.
Also, the 7800 strikes me as an update to the XPS 2, not the next-gen. The next-gen for me will have dual-core and 64-bit...I can't imagine spending $3k on a laptop that's going to be obselete in 4-6 months anyway. That's what $800 laptops are for...

obsolete is far to strong a word for that... obsolete means it will not be usable and that is not the case for the gen 2 in 4-6 months. it will be useable cause they wont suddenly make all software 64bit or dual core...
64 bit will happen fast when Vista comes - but that won't be for 12 months. 4-6 is a bit too short on the "obsolete" declaration. Dual core will be nice, but again even when that gets here the first gen of it won't be 64 bit, and it will be much close obviously to the Vista release. Response to it is likely to be a bit dampened.
Sorry, been having this conversation a lot.

I define obselete in the marketplace sense...IE, a new buyer would no longer consider making it a part of a purchase. Much like AGP vs. PCI E a few months ago, it no longer makes any sense whatsoever to go AGP.

Of course the computers will still be usable, it's not like they're all just not going to turn on one day all at the same time, now is it? They just won't be worth it anymore...and, to be honest, they've had a nice 5-6 month run at the top of the food chain, and that's pretty damned good in this business.
I doubt 64 bit will happen quickly, even when vista comes, at least in the consumer market. I don't see a good reason for anyone to rush to upgrade to Vista, and I'm sure most consumers aren't going to be running out the door to pay for a new OS that isn't necessary at all. Realstically, I think the adoption of 64bit and Vista will be quite slow. Computers do everything people want already, and XP is stable enough. If someone like me, who has a decent amount of computer knowledge, isn't sold on Vista, I don't see how people who are computer illiterate would care for it. I'm sure someone buying a new computer would choose newer over older, but a lot of users are probably happy with their current computers and won't look to upgrade immediately.
