Laptop<3,

Well, according to rfs, it sounds like it is a quiet laptop.

But you cannot order now since it is out of stock. I am glad I ordered it before 8/15

If you order a Z70Va now, your laptop is not expected to ship until Sept. 14

I will do a review with a comparison to the Gateway m680. I don't think the z70va's display will be as good as the Gateway m680 but I will have to compare it to be sure. But hopefully the asus will be a quieter laptop.

For those asking about the fans... I can't really tell. The loudest thing on mine is the hard drive... which I'm considering switching for a Seagate.

And by the way its not loud at all, just more of a nuisance.

There was a boom... there were well over 200 preorders

Ya, the loudest thing on mine is the HD as well. But I have the 7200RPM one, and there's no way I'd give up the speed. This thing feels like a desktop.

I agree that Seagate makes better hard drives than Hitachi. I might exchange it for a 7200RPM Seagate drive in the future when those come out. But I'm happy with the way it is now.

It is a very quiet laptop, but the left palmrest does get a little warm after it's been on for awhile or under a load. I don't really mind it though.

I have yet to hear the fans noticeably come on. I think they're going, because I feel a slight outrush of hot air if I put my hand near one of the vents - but it's very slight, and I definitely can't hear it.

I read some reviews of the z70v (I think) that had mentioned that it could get too hot on the right-hand-side, if that's where you had the mouse. I'm not seeing that, though.

On my Z70V (non-refresh) after about 5mins, you can audibly hear the fan (I guess the CPU fan?) turn on, I guess after it heats up a bit is when the fan turns on. If that is not the case with the Z70VA then that is a definite improvement, in fact that's one of my only complaints with the Z70V ... also, the vent on the right side does blow hot air when gaming (not during normal use) but it is at the top near the back, so it doesn't blow where the mouse usually would be, so its not really an issue. Just thought I'd post to verify those issues.

Oh, also ... where's the pictures?!

Question: Does anyone know how the Fn key works? I'm guessing you push that and the volume controls and stuff becomes active... but it's working like that for me. How do I use it exactly?

Are you holding down the Fn key? If that doesn't work...have you tried both Fn's (on either side of the keyboard)? Maybe the one you're trying is defective...
Doesn't look like either work... do they work for you? Is there something I have to run to activate them?

Sup mike!

You have to press and hold the Function (Fn) key and then press what you what that is in light blue. For instance if you want to toggle wireless, press and hold Fn and hit F2 (that is if the keyboard set up is the same as the Z71V)

So you pretty much got it right

Has anyone tested the battery life yet?
