Notebook search

I am looking for a notebook for my 1st year at uni.
I am looking between the Sony FS series and the Toshiba Satellite m50. I am leaning more towards the m50 because the 15' of the Sony I feel will take up the whole desk space. In terms of reliability and school usage which of the two would you prefer? Price isnt really a matter. Looking at getting something along the lines of a 100 gb hdd, 512 ram, Pentium M, around 3+ hrs battery life. Im no really a gamer so this is mostly for school and chatting with friends. Any advice would be great! Thanks!

Besides, the obvious Dell 700M, Have you taken a look at some of the portable ASUS models?

Specifically the Z63 or the W3V?

While Toshiba and Sony are reliable companies, they are not among the best in terms of product quality, especially in their consumer grade (i.e. non-professional) systems.

Toshiba does definately not build computers with amazingly good product quality. Sony is a lot better than Toshiba, but it's also expensive. However, since that's not a matter, have you looked that the Sony laptops that are like 13"? That size is about perfect, and I would seriously consider buying one for myself if they weren't so expensive. Another really good ultraportable is the Dell Inspiron 700m.

Isnt 13' SMALL?

I don't think it's small at all. I suggest you go to a local electronics store and take a look at one. You might want to call around and make sure they have one on display. I really like the 13" laptops.
