But make sure you close down Windows Messenger before you do the uninstall.
1. It still manages to get in there and be annoying. I don't know why, but this doesn't always work.

2. I believe this just removes the shortcut.

It depends on what other programs you're running.

Outlook has this interesting option to enable Messenger Status support - and that might pull Messenger in.

I'm not sure if Outlook Express has anything like that, since I don't use it.

Other programs may do similar things - check to see if they have the ability to disable Messenger integration.

And yes, you may be right - I don't use Windows Messenger much, after upgrading to Office Communicator (required by work).

You can try these to see if this helps: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;302089

Thats it!!! Outlook 2003 starts it! I used to use outlook, and that would be why that method never worked for me. I don't use outlook much anymore (prefer the Gmail interface), but I still use the Rundll32 remove command.

Cheers

For Outlook 2003: Tools | Options -> Other -> Display Messenger Status in the From field.

Try unchecking that, closing Outlook, then closing down Messenger.

Then re-open Outlook and see if Messenger activates.

I don't use outlook for anything other than keeping a backup of my PDA calender, so it doesn't bother me anymore.

Besides, I have removed the Windows Messenger infestation all together I use MSN Messenger 7.5 (with mess.be patch)
