Does anyone who has this sound card have any problems/issues with the ricoh pcmcia controller?

if you have it and a xps2 or 9300, do you also have the same controller as i6000: control panel/system/hardware/device manager/pcmcia adapters

ricoh R/RL/5C476(II)

I ask this because some emu products have known issues with that contoller, and i saw in a previous post that you may have trouble with the audigy running in high performace mode.

by the way researching this mainly for dvd playback in surround sound 5.1

also how many processes are running with this installed and the effects on batt life.

thankx

from Creative site:

Known Incompatibilities:

There have been reported compatibility problems with PCMCIA Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Notebook and the PCMCIA controllers listed below. Creative Labs is currently working with the respective PCMCIA controller chipset manufacturers to develop solutions that would improve the performance of notebook systems with these chipsets. These updates will be available at www.soundblaster.com.

# Ricoh R5C476(II)
# Ricoh R5C475(II)
# TI PCI-1520
# Toshiba Tecra2000
# Fujitsu Lifebook C2310 P M 1.5GHz.
# Tohsiba Satelite M30 Notebook.
# IBM Notebook X21 and X20
# Dell Inspiron D400

would like to know if a driver update would solve this, has anyone encountered issues?

I have the 9300, and it uses the Ricoh R5C476 (II) controller. I DON'T have the Audigy card (yet) - but just confirming that it is the chipset in my 9300.

hmmm...wondering if people who have the Audigy card have issues, and what the issues are that Creative are concerned about.

I doubt that they are serious issues, considering the amount of people that seem to have the Audigy card.

The only issuse I have is the 1-2 second delay if I use the built in laptop speakers. If I use the Zalman 5.1 headphones the sound is awsome, Even soung great on Sony HT digital out.

I have it...the only issue I have with it are the pops and crackles when playing mp3 files. But it only does this when switching between files and it's not that loud. You can't even hear it when the S750 7.1 surround is shaking the walls, only when the music is really really low in volume.

maybe look into the m-audio firewire products

Ive been looking for info on this issue myself....

Tech specs from the dell doc site list the 9300 as a R5C841 Cardbus, but it appears as the Ricoh R5C476(II).

In fact the Ricoh site has NO info on the 841 .....

I had one for my 9300 and never noticed any problems.

I've had two SB cards for my 9300 and they both eventually crapped out. I've got an Indigo now. No issues and sounds much better. OK, it does have surround and all the fluff, but it plays music much better than Creative.

Only thing I've noticed is a bit of background noise when hooked up to a theater's a/v system -- but then considering how high-end this setup was, I'm sure it wasn't the PCMCIA controller -- it was the quality of the Audigy card itself.

if you are having problems with popping, update to the latest drivers. I was hearing the same thing while playing mps and after updating, it went away.

It HAS problems with this chipset, I can confirm this,
I personally have a EMU 1616 for my laptop which has the same chip but with an extra DSP, If you play/record more then 6 streams it'll crack/pop
But since we're talking about a consumer card I don't think anyone has this problems

I got one a few weeks back and it locks up everything i could never get it working. uninstalled etc... etc... and it never worked. back to the US on tuesday and hope they will take it back.

I have a the card in my 9300, don't know what PCMCIA chipset I have, but I have never had problems. Some people reported issues of sound lag in games, I havn't had any. Pops in music, don't have that either.
I got this card for 5.1 output. Other cards may have better overall sound quality, but as far as I know, I don't think there are any 5.1 out alternatives at this point.
