MSI MS-1029 from Cyberpower! Turion 64 MT-30, X700/128MB, 1GB, 60GB 5k $1167 shipped! - Page 5

I've heard their shipping times are very liberal. You should prolly add on at least 4 or 5 days onto their estimate.

My case remains to be seen.... (Ordered 8/26, estimated shipping 9/9, was originally 9/7)

Nice Laptop and evnious of the lower voltage Turion you can order it with. Congrats on the people who ordered. We're all waiting for a full review!

Just so you know, I just ordered a 2.2GHZ version, and it'll take an extra
2 weeks for delivery.

Also, I'm trying to get them to include an extra GB of memory
(for a total of 2GB).

Here's to hoping.

Make sure that Cyberpower is aware of the "downclocking issue" when configuring with multiple sticks of RAM. Might be worth an email to check and see if they are on top of this. If you have not been following the other threads, the MS-1029 currently downclocks to DRR266 (for DDR400 AND DDR33 SODIMMs) when they are paired. In short, if you are asking for another stick of RAM you are asking for reduced performance in your memory.

I've heard this machine's battery dies much faster than would be expected from the specs. Does anyone have reliable data on the battery life?
2.5 to 3 hrs is the battery life in real world applications. I spent full 2hrs watching a dvd movie on brightness on medium, CPU at lowest setting, wireless/bluetooth off still had 20 to 30mins left on it. 2.5 hrs doing Photoshop work with external monitor, It could have lasted longer but class ended. The battery does live up to its 2.5 to 3hr battery life.

Right, but the Acer Ferrari uses higher-power components and the same size battery, and gets 3.5-4 hours.

Why does this machine suck so much power?
Because no one knows for sure what settings were used for the tests that suggested 3.5 - 4.0 hours. They might well have took the screen to the lowest brightness, turned off WiFi and throttled the GPU . The Laptoplogic.com review which showed 3:09 rundown would certainly support the assumption that 3.5 - 4.0 hours of battery life was under very "tweaked" settings.

Whoever advertises the laptop wants to make it look as good as possible, using whatever tests they can that demonstrates the longetivity of their laptop's battery power.

Under load and more realistic usage the MSI MS-1029 battery will most likely last longer than the Ferrari 4000 under the same conditions. The Ferrari 4000 uses the 35w Turion 64 while the MS-1029 uses the 25w. So yes with minimal load the difference is minimal but the higher the load the better I think the MS-1029 will do VS the Ferrari 4000. Still the difference is not going to be big. I think the X700/chipset and screen determains alot of the power draw in these kind of notebooks, 35w/25w CPU can only make so much difference when the load is light.

I'm just wondering, because I have a 15.4" machine with an Athlon 64 3400+ 62w TDP, and a Radeon 9600. This thing isn't exactly built for battery life, yet it got 2.4-2.5 hours when the battery was new.

I am aware of the problem. I have great faith in MSI fixing the problem.

The point is probably moot, I'll likely have to cancel my order.
They can't get the system to me before my next trip.
(*sigh*)

I didn't ask if you were aware of the problem. My question was, is Cyberpower aware of the problem and have they made potential customers aware.

It doesn't surprise me for a second that they can't deliver on your system since you hoped to configure with the MT-40. The MT-37 only just became readily available to resellers this week...no idea when we can expect the same of the MT-40.

What are some 3Dmark05 scores out there? I got a 2510 with 435-core 335-mem.
I was really hoping for the MT40. Does anyone know when they will getting more MT37s in?
MT-37s are pretty available now, shouldn't take them long to get them in stock.
