You can get the Dell 9300 for 1500 or under if you use one of the ubiquitous Dell coupons.

I paid $1627 and that is after the $400 to step up to the 2Ghz P-M. I very much recommend this box.

should be a decent gaming. I have the 7426gx. Mine only has the ati radeon 9600 in it and it plays half life 2 and bf2. The 7510gx has the athlon 64 3700 cpu and the x600 video card with 128mb dedicated ram and 128mb hypermemory. Should do a good job.

I second that, the 74xx/75xx series is very nice from Gateway. The only problem you have to watch out for is cracked hinges, but I think that's been solved by them. Even if it happens, Gateway ususally will service it and send it back to you in less than a week, door step to door step. I sent mine in for service, and got it back slightly more than 90 hours later on my front porch, excellent service turnaround.

The Dell will have a more powerful GPU, so it will perform better at games such as HL2, F.E.A.R., and you will be able to play these at higher settings at high fps (though still not full settings, that you have to wait for the 7800 series in notebooks). For more CPU intensive games such as UT2004 and FarCry, it will matter less.

More generally, the 3700+ would be the best performing CPU across the whole range of applications on any laptop, with exception of perhaps the 4000+ S939; especially if you run a lot of scientific and engineering applications.

I think the Gateway 17in I looked at only came with a x700 x/128 max. The i9300 can be equipped with the 6800go 256 which is really nice to have for games (no it's not as good as the ultra, but I like this case better ) The coupons are listed on these forums.

While I agree not with FULL settings, pretty dang close; it's still the best gaming box under $1500. I also actually didn't want a fullsize keyboard w/ num pad (I think the Gateway had that) because that would leave me typing off center which just felt strange. I did really like the Gateway, but I still think to get the same specs as the Dell you have to pony up more $$. Not saying that's bad, but we are talking <1500.

Oh and you will have to live with good battery life even though you said you didn't care for it. Since this notebook comes with the Turion 64 MT(25w) line of CPUs! Also to me WXGA res screen is virtue when gaming. I want to be able to run as many games, new and old, at a native resolution with the X700 GPU w/ no to big of a performance hit. At 1280x800 this is very possible with the X700/128MB GPU. Also 1024x768 practically fills the whole screen on a WXGA LCD unstretched so games will run excellent and look great due to native resolution.

Also this notebook is fully Windows XP 64-Bit Pro supported w/ all the drivers needed and available from MSI as of now.

I'm going to game everywhere and every moment I have a chance with this thing!

It's a good deal, but I think it's still comparable to the i9300 coupon deals that ppl can get from Dell US. You can get an i9300 for close to that price, or maybe a little bit more, but you'll get better performance out of the 6800 Go. Plus you have a higher resolution 17" screen, too.

Well I'm pretty sure you can play HL2 @ WXGA+ native (1440x900) with 4xAA and 8xAF and get like 40fps or more.

Yeah, that could be an EXCELLENT deal. Ppl can get them for like $1400 USD or so, right? Just get a 3-year warranty (w/ or w/o Complete Care), and you'll be good to go.

Yes, the i9300 is unrivaled in terms of price/gaming performance (well, the current MSI deal comes close; maybe a little cheaper, but it has a less powerful GPU and just a standard WXGA 15.4" screen). Seriously, if you don't mind carrying an approx. 8lb laptop that is just ~1.5"? wider than a normal 15.4" laptop, then you should be getting the best deal for gaming with a 17" WXGA+ or WUXGA i9300 w/ Geforce 6800 Go. Hmm, you could even go the Dell Outlet route w/ warranty and see how good a deal you can find for the i9300.

Inspiron 9300
Pentium M 1.73 GHZ 2mb cache
Nvida Go 256mb dedicated grapgics
17" wxga widescreen display
6cell battery
512 dual channeled ram
1yr warantee plan

(I wont go into details)
I'm getting all this with a free printer and im buying a printer cable all this shipped is $1206 USD
Much better than the gateway so I hear and I believe its $40 bucks cheaper.
I was deciding between these 2 laptops myself and was told to go with the gateway.

I got a 750$coupon off the dell look around for one and get the Dell instead

9300 with the 256MB Go 6800 and a pin modded 725. Easy choice. Dunno why you would consider ANYTHING else.
9300 is going to be the best as for the 17 inchers in your price range. With a 40% off coupon you can get the XPS2 @ $1600ish USD (lowest spec).

Oh, just to make it clear, don't want bulky 17" screen, don't want 10lb, don't want a 32-bit "locked" system, don't want poor battery life, so this is why Dell have nothing to offer me. LOL!... I'm all for mobile gaming (~6lbs, 15.4", 1" thin, low power consumption/heat).

In short the answer was MSI MS-1029 since it also happens to use the low 25w version of the Turion 64 mobile CPU. No other notebook have all these features combined, hence, making up my mind (when knowing what I wanted from my notebook) was not hard to do! There was only one notebook that could offer all of this in one, the MSI MS-1029.

If I didn't care about mobility, bulkiness and battery life, then why get a notebook to begin with? I would just get a monster AMD X2 SLI desktop. But this is just my personal opinion! It all depends of what you want your notebook to be able to do for you...

Whatever floats your boat.

Personally, I think taking my 17" 9300 notebook to a lan party is much better than taking my desktop. Lots less stuff to take.

Oh, and 1,000th post!
