Help Choosing Laptop

Hi. Im new here at notebookforums and need help choosing a laptop.
I have been looking at the Dell Inspiron XPS2, 9300,6000d,D810
Not really sure about 6000d and d810 because of GPU.
I am a hardcore gamer and need a laptop capable of playing BF2 at acceptable framerates.
Is it worth it to get the XPS over the 9300?

If you got the money.

The 9300 can handle any game you throw at it. The advantage of the XPS, is that it will do that for a while longer.

If you're hardcore, then the XPS2 would probably be preferable; the 6800 Go Ultra is definitely a nicer card, but its not leaps and bounds better. But if you want power, the Ultra is where its at... plus, you can get the XPS2 for pretty cheap with the $750 or 40% off coupons that are constantly flooding these very forums. Either card will handle BF2 flawlessly.

i play BF2 just fine on my i6000d.... i get just a couple snags at the start of the game, ( only for about 4 seconds) then it is fine, runs without lag, and good framrate

Like everyone else said, if you got the money, get the XPS Gen 2. If you're on a budget, the 9300 is for you. Hardcore gamers will not appreciate the 6000 and the D180

Is the 128mb x300 in the 6000d shared or dedicated?
It's a dedicated card, but the x300 is not a gaming card. It doesn't fare as well in games as a lot of gamers would like. It's fine for casual gamers.
Well, it depends on what you mean by 128mb. The 6000 comes with the choice for either a 64-mb X300 with 64mb of Hypermemory, or a 128mb X300. Regardless, both cards will have a lot of trouble churning out anything more than minimal performance in BF2, much less any other new games. Yes, it may be playable, but if you're hardcore, you're going to be EXTREMELY grounded by the card.

Any reason why you're not fully considering the 9300 or the XPS2? The XPS2 holds one of the best ratios of price and performance, since the 6800 Go Ultra is really a beast of a card. If you're hardcore and you don't really mind the 10lb-ness, its a great choice.

it is both actually, 64 megs shared, 64 megs dedicated

Go for the 9300 better battery life, five hundred bucks less, cooler, you get screen resolution options, WUXGA only on the xps gen 2, both are great systems, 9300 is the best overall value/performance. both are far better performers than the 6000 which is nearly the same price as 9300

Don't let it get to ya, cubby.

Cutters, shut up. It's obvious the person who asked the question probably meant the actual 128MB card, which is a dedicated card. The 128MB card is not a combination of memory types. Red clearly stated the details of this card and the other one.

Yay! \o/ Btw, WXGA+ or WUXGA version? If you're the type of hardcore gamer who can't stand fps' below 60fps, then you'd definately need to get the WXGA+ version. If you're more of an eye candy person who doesn't mind playing around 40fps or maybe a bit lower, then get the WUXGA (if it's affordable).

Btw, to clarify what red said, the 64MB ATI version is actually 32MB onboard and 32MB shared (hypermemory). I'm pretty sure the 128MB version is all dedicated, but I don't remember specifically reading anything to back that up. I think Dell's 6000 page only has the footnote about 32MB shared memory for the 64MB version, which is why I'm inclined to think that the 128MB version is all dedicated.

Id probably get a xga screen so that i can play games at 1440x900 with good fps.
You do know that you can play games at resolutions like 1440 x 900 on the WUXGA? In that respect it will have the same performance as the WXGA display. Personally, if it is within budget, I would rather the WUXGA display so you at least have the option o go higher if you want to... if you get the WXGA you are stuck.

Yeah, but isn't it true that with higher resolution screens like WUXGA, the quality of picture decreases the lower the resolution you go?
