Yeah Tax does suck. I wish they offered those of us that have to pay tax a little more of a discount or throw in something extra. If it wasn't due to the fact that Dell is offering such good discounts otherwise....I might have considered Alienware, which charges no tax in NY.

If you'll be doing ANY gaming, EVER, you'll notice a huge improvement. It might make a difference for DVDs/DivX-type video also, just in terms of not lagging, but I'm not sure on that.

Also take the person's advice about getting RAM separately. RAM is important, but Dell charges like 400 % of the actual cost.

EDIT: Whoops, I be late, you followed both advices, LOL. That's what I get for not reading.

For right now I am going to get a 512mb stick of Kingston from Newegg. That will give me 768mb. Later I will get another stick either 512mb or 1gb to go with that 512.

I would get the 1 gig stick or see if you can charge it or something. You will definitely want 2 gb and it will be difficult to sell 512 sticks for close to what you paid for it later. Just my opinion....Good luck however you go with it though because it is a great lappy...

Just buy 1 GB stick and be done with it. Never buy computer hardware in the hope of upgrading, you just spend more money. Right now if you buy a 1GB stick for ~$100, you'll have 1.25GB and never have to buy anymore RAM.

I am thinking that I want as fast a processor with as much ram more so than the 256mb Nvidia with a slower proc. Am I going the right way with this ?

I got the 1.86 ghz with the nvidia 6800 go card, definitely the right choice bro and use a coupon for goodness sakes, putting a faster processor with a slower video card isnt going to give you alot of performance, especially compared to a 1.86 adding the nvidia card and you want to do audio and video editing, get the good graphics card, the diff between 2.0 and 1.86 in benchmarks is barely perceivable to your brain.

I cant count how many times ive heard that one, never have to buy any more ram ROFL ROFL LOL, buy your memory after purchase at newegg or somewhere else other than dell and save at least a hundred bucks plus get better quality ram.

I remember paying 400 bucks to upgrade from 2 meg to 8 megs of ram in my 386 and the guy told me I would never have to upgrade again. I guess he was right though, that computer never did get upgraded again.

Lol, I know I know, Bill Gates But if you think about it, 1.25GB in a computer for a non-gamer will pretty much last him the life of the laptop. Hell I still surf the web and read e-mails on my old Dell XPS 333 with a 333MHz PII and 128MB, circa 1998

I think you made the right choice going with the Go 6800. GPU technology is advancing faster than CPU technology, so if you go with a lesser GPU your notebook would be somewhat dated before you even got it. Even if you don't ever touch a game - the Go 6800 is a better choice IMHO because the new Windows due out next year requires a descent GPU for its flashy GUI interface. And finally when you eventually go to sell your notebook it will be more attractive with the Go 6800.
