4780 Video Card upgradeable?

Thread Starter
In the future, would it be possible to upgrade the 4780s video card?
im glad there is a search on these forums, i was just going to ask this question and then i saw this one, anyone know if the 4780 graphics card could be upgraded to the radeon 9700 when it becomes available??

just ordered my 4780 and this was one reason i went to sager. because of its upgradability.

thanks

Just called sager on these two questions today! funny...can't upgrade 4780 chip as it is one with the motherboard at least that's what I was told. I was told I could upgrade the dvd burner as well...but just wanted to specifically confirm it here.

so what your saying is that the video card is "one" with the motherboard, man that is one hell of a mother board than....LOL
post #5 of 57
Yes its integraded into the mother board (right under the "W" key to be exact) BUT when or if another graphics chip comes out for the 4780 you can send it back to sager and for 700 or so dollars they will replace your mobo which contains the graphics card and refurbish it or whatever.......

ok, no disrespect man, but can someone with some real answers clue me in on this??

Umm WTF did you not understand what I just said? Well then I will carefully reword it for YOU!:

The video card in the Sager 4780 is intergraded onto the motherboard directly under the “W” key if you were to look under the keyboard and protective metal cover. The video card is not exactly upgradeable BUT you can send it into sager when the time comes that there is a necessary upgrade, for a PRICE around 700 or so AMERICAN dollars you can have them replace your motherboard (and of course on the motherboard is the VIDEO CARD!).

Hope I was of some help.

Is it really a kind of daughterboard "hardwired" to the motherboard? In the future you might be able to upgrade. Right now it's a "who knows" situation. If it is upgradable at a future date count on shipping the unit back to Sager for a retrofit and prepare to spend a few (many) hundred of dollars for the upgrade.

Don't mind Beachbum, his name sez it all... and then there is that funny banana thing. He reminds me of the "Ugly American". Say anything slow enough, loud enough, and many many times and everyone in the world will understand English. Sorry Bum, your information was not information at all and I wonder where the price and availability that you infer were gained. Is anyone now activately upgrading the 4780 for $700 USD?? I pause to ask the following: Dark in there? Hot, humid, and stinky? Having troubles breathing? Neck being squeezed real tight? It appears as if your head is inside the back end of that Banana (or elsewhere closer to your anatomy)!!

Simply saying the same thing over and over again will not educate and only make you look like a real "Hee Haw". Enough said on my part. I'd do the ; however, I don't want to hurt you by cutting off circulation from time to time.

::Grins::......

Now that was not kind at all, I was using information from previous models which had updates that had the intergraded chips and people were able to send their stupid sager in for an over priced gay upgrade and im not in the best mood to deal with this but i will move on you ignorant, moronic, thought-devoid, empty headed, limp wristed little f*cktard.

BeachBum has spoken!

Yeah Yeah Yeah.

beachbum, not only have you educated me in the path of self stupidity, you have totally informed me of absolutly nothing. You have told me what i have read in the forums to be speculation, not only are you ignorant but you have defied the term stupidty. I asked a simple educated question and all i got was a well rounded grade school answer. please in next reply to your well thought out answers, back them up with dignified solutions to peoples questions. My god is this forum full of people that run on rumors or is this a place where somebody with questions can get answers.

topic closed in this respect.

if someone is willing to answer in a way that people can understand, by all means answer the freaking question. G-Omaha, i do respect you for trying to answer the question, but if someone who really respects the customer and are able to give me a real answer, do this? or is this a place where people that are bored come to chit-chat?

people chill! geewizz...

as for the original answer it was simple enough for me to understand... maybe he should have stated he was giving an educated guess from past reports.... but the slander is way out of hand here... please be nice...

you guys are ****ing morons... except for BeachBum... everything he says is correct. the 4780 is not video-card upgradable.. the only laptop with that right now is offered only by alienware.

Sager, has in the past, offered computer upgrades from the same series... ie a older 5xxxx series updated with a new motherboard/cpu/videocard/ram from the newest 5xxxx model.

Im not a moron. and I ask that you be civil if my asking people to be nice is to much....

Why would anyone even want to post on the sager forums anymore? You say one thing wrong or something that does not sound right and you get $itch Slapped by the so called "experts" over and over.

Oh.. BTW....... Special Ed is great.....

I'm not sure what answer you're searching for but like others said upgrade information on the 4780 is just speculation. No one knows what plans sager (or clevo for that matter) may have in the future. You can probably ask them but I doubt they'll let you know or they may not even know. The resellers probably won't know until it actually becomes available. They began the upgrade option due to customer demand and assuming the same form factor remains for the 47XX series they MAY offer an upgrade. However, the instant an upgrade path does become available it will be immediately posted in the News section first. So keep an eye on that.

that was more along the lines of what i needed to hear. I know that all the information was speculation, but i was wanting an admin to come in here and give his/her two cents.
