4780 Video Card upgradeable? - Page 3

Well, the real question that should be posed, especially with PCI-Express coming out, is whether or not it will be worth while and cost efficient for Clevo to produce an upgrade for the motherboard/video card combos in all their computers. Even the upgradability of Alienware products is up in the air given the fact that new technology will be knocking at our doors very soon (hopefully).

Honestly, with exidous' question, this sort of issue has been discussed before. The process for upgrading the 56XX and 88XX would logically be the same for upgrading the 4780. All we have to go on is past behavior, which is a good indicator of future behavior, and our* best guess is that Sager will offer an upgrade for the 4780, but no one really knows, because the 9700 isn't out yet, and I don't know anyone who knows the future.

Well.....If I were a notebook computer manufacturer I would NOT have upgradable graphics cards becouse I would want the customer to buy a NEW laptop after a year or 2 when the better hardware comes out, but thats up to clev0.

It's all good, JVT, sorry about my post. A lot of people have been on really short tempers lately, it's just par for the course to have them flare every once in awhile.

Whatever brings them money will do just fine.
Nor do I think they will release a "4790" but who knows, the freeken 8790 isn't even out yet!
I did not mean they were going to stop selling the 4780, they still are selling the 4760. I meant that I do not see them offering a "next" model in this line like they have done in the past with the 56XX and 88XX series. The next model is the 8790 and because it uses a larger chassis, I would bet the farm users with a 4780 M10/SIS chipset will not be able to upgrade to the M11/Intel mobo. Understand???

It would be more feasible to make an upgrade path for the 4760 M9 users to upgrade to the 4780/M10 mobo, but Sager so far has not offered this as an option, and I doubt you will ever see it since it is now a little late in the game.

Those of you buying a 4780 today with the idea that you can upgrade it later with newer tech I fear will be in line with a big disappointment. Believe what you want, it is all just speculation.

exidious:

If you didn't want people on the board to respond, then you should have done this:

Step 1: Go into your e-mail account.
Step 2: E-mail either Sager or Adam at PCTorque with your question.
Step 3: Wait for response.

Freaking DUH.

We don't need people antagonizing each other on the boards. If you don't like someone else's response, don't answer it. Wait for another.

G-Omaha: you need friends.

someone please close this thread before it gets out of hand.

For now, the video card in the 4780 is NOT upgradeable. It's as simple as that.

Sure it is, we keep a pile of new M37's in the back room with the flux capacitors, next to those tiny little pieces of paper with gumby on them that they say I'm not supposed to put on my tongue

What if I surround the notebook with aroma candles, fire up some new age music, and then do my happy dance. Will it be upgradable then?
