what bag do you use?

so my order is still being processed and at the time i didn't place an order to get a bag aloung with the lappy from aw. figured if anything there might be a better choice of buying a bag from somewhere else like amazon.

was wondering what is the consensus for the best bag to get since i'm sure because of the raw size it won't fit in most bags.

looked at the Targus Sport Deluxe Computer Backpack Blue/Black (TSB315) and having read another thread seemed like the best choice to go with but before i place the order wanted to confirm.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...onics&n=507846

before this i had a dell inspiron 7500 which is also on the hefty side that i normally just threw into my tumi case that just bearly fit, most days i would use a northface backpack with no padding which as you can imagine caused the dell to take some bumps and bruises here and there. on the plust side though i was able to fit the laptop, speakers, mouse, wires and a couple of big books. guess worst case scenario i'll keep using the nortface but would like other options.

the bigger the bag the better in my case, aloung with the lappy would be nice to have room for those thick technical books that get up to a 1000 pages, etc. extra pockets would be cool as well but ideally wouldn't want to have something that looks ugly and wouldn't give justice to the aw inside

any ideas would be great.

thanks

Go to www.powernotebooks.com, click on the Accessories button, and then click on the Carrying Cases link. It'll take you to a fantastic leather backpack computer case that is the best I've ever seen/used.

Targus Sport Backpack

the Targus Sport is definitely a good bag. It's got the perfect amount of room to hug the AW A51m, plus all my crap to go with it.

Back compartment:
  • Computer (in it's own padded area with velcro strap)
  • 6x8 Wacom pentablet
  • power supply (cords wrapped around the unit)

Front compartment:
  • large sketchbook (9x12)
  • two novels (trade paperbacks ~400pgs each)
  • 5 CD-ROMs with jewelcases
  • two folders and a notebook

Front pocket:
  • small notebook
  • all kinds of pens, pencils, etc.
  • other necessary crap

Also, on the outside, the side pockets have my digital camera, my extra optical mouse, and my cell phone.

It's huge and very well laid out for all the stuff I need. I can't imagine wanting to carry anymore weight than that at once, without just separating it into two bags.

the padding is really well-placed too. Very comfortable, even if you're walking for a while.

I'm sure there might be better bags out there, but I haven't found one yet.

Hey jswriter,

Seen some of your posts in the AW forums. What made you decide to send the AW back? Was it because of all the annoying glitches in the laptop or the lack of any response from customer service. I'm kind of in the I don't know if I should send it back or not mode right now. Still contemplating it. Did you have to pay a restocking fee or did they take it back without charging you?

Peace

Nice indeed, thanks a bunch Craig, I had seen that one before and it looks very tempting but I was unsure if it would supply adequate room for the AW. Good to know, thanks again Craig

I'll definitely be getting that mezzi

Be sure to watch all of this guy's auctions though. If you time it right, you could pay as little as $30 for the thing. My friend got the same one from this guy for peanuts.

This ebay seller is a great person to deal with. Rest assured your product will be delivered in one piece and he keeps in good communication with you through the shipping process.

Once I get my Alienware, I'll have to lug around two laptops with me all over the US for my job. One for work and one for play. They've got proprietary software installed on the laptop they provide for me which I wouldn't want on the AW anyway.

I've seen this bag in a store (Fry's Electronics for those of you lucky enough to have one near you) and will be getting it as it will hold both the 16" screen on the AW and the Armada 700 that my job provides.

Hey Drag! Yeah, I do a lot of posting in the AW forums. I returned my 51m reluctantly because I really liked what it aspires to be. My first complaint was the sloppy, lazy, and misleading advertising about the "metallic alloy case/chassis." After much hell-raising and conversations with some people at AW, I let go of that issue and kept the laptop, which also had dead pixels and the noise/connection problems with the WIFI card. Eventually, AW replaced the LCD, swapped my WIFI B card for a WIFI G card, and even swapped the original Nvidia 5600 for the ATI 9600. They sent back my 51m, it performed very well for about five days...and then just died. It wouldn't power up at all on battery or AC power.

To AW's credit, they responded to my call and e-mails within hours. They offered to examine my 51m and repair any/all problems on an expedited basis. But, after everything I'd experienced with it, I just had my fill of glitches and problems. I think I just got a dud out of the many 51m's that shipped out during the first few weeks...it happens with any high performance machine, be they cars or computers. I'm not angry, I don't post hundreds of "I Hate Alienware!" messages everywhere, I just wanted to get back my money and star over. We'll see if they charge the restocking fee. I may take that issue up with my credit card company.

So, dat's the rest of the story. I just hope this new Athlon 64 notebook is all its supposed to be.

Targus Noteworthy - No so much.

Craig -

I guess it depends on how much you travel and how much stuff you plan to put in it. But the 2 that I had broke apart after just 3 months use. Granted I travel ALOT - and the bag gets loaded with 1 laptop, 1 tablet and accessories. I'll never buy another consumer/disposable bag for travel again... Tumi for clothes and Brenthaven for my roller. If you want one of the best Roller's around try out the Brenthaven mobile brief (they also have some very heavy duty back's). I have 2 of 'em and use 1 as my backup since I simply can't be w/out one. Also - I suggest buying it from a local shop since Brenthaven's have a great warranty. My local shop takes care of all issues - heck they even provide a loaner (not necessary since I have my own).

Note - I tried the Tumi roller - Not in the same league as my Brenthaven.

Cool...thanks for the heads up. I just finished up my 200th night with Hilton this year last week and over 125k in freq flyer miles with Delta. Needless to say, I've beaten the heck out of my travel gear as well. Do you have a link for this manufacturer?
