The first one (Dell) should be roughly 5-10x faster in games.

I would say go for the AW, I actually say change the specs and move the ALX system, because they would provide even better technical assistance. Plus I would go for the SLI config as well, get 2 to 3 gigs of ram. and go for like a 3.2 or 3.4 ghz processor.

NOTW nomination for Alien_Head13 for recommending a computer with a AGP 128MB ATI 9550 over a PCI-Express 256MB GeForce 6800.

Nice work fanboy.

Choo choo! Oh look it's the clue train! And you missed it!

The guy asked for advice regarding two specific (very specific, not just model numbers here, full specs) computers. You recommended the Alienware, which has the ATI 9550, which is AGP. I know that SLI is PCI-E. That's not the argument. You told him to get the Alienware, which has AGP. It should also be noted that SLI is patended nVidia technology, which means even if the ATI card in the AW was PCI-E, you couldn't possibly have SLI. In case you need verification that the 9550 is AGP click this link and scroll down:

To the OP: Get the Dell.

Damn it man, if you read my post you would have noticed, I said to get the AW but I also said to upgrade to ALX or something that has SLI, I didn't even didn't even look at the specs for the AW 5500. Actualy 5500 isn't bad at all, just upgrade the AGP vid card the x800 and you got comprable performace to the dell.

Yes I know SLI is nvidia set only...duh. Otherwise I wouldn't have said get sli, I would have said to get eh x850 xt 512 mb video. Jeebus If people actually read what I posted then I wouldn't have to explain myself.

Remember next time you read a post, read the enire thing, don't just read the first part. Because you will take things out of context, Its funny how no one else picked up on it though. so sad.

Talk about retardation.

Dude you are talking from going from a ~2000.00 machine to a 4500+ machine. That doesnt sound like good advice when you are going way over his budget.
no shit. I know that. It was just a thought....who cares now. I was just trying to defend my post. I was just trying to make the point that if you read my previous post then we wouldn't be having the conversatuions from before. Now I know that the price would sky rocket from the previous machines, but having a pci-e machine versus an agp machine is not a fair comparison. Of course go for the dell, it would be faster by comparison by the specs he has listed, I was just saying that if he wants a good system, go pci-e and go AW. nothing more.

Uh, maybe it's just me, but can't anyone else spot what's in conflict here?

ag back to the OP, i think you should buy the parts and build it yourself. For 2000 dollars you can build a much better system yourself.

DFI lan party motherboard - $150
Any ATX case -$50
AMD athlon 64 3500+ - $250
2x1gb value ram - $160
160gb HDD - $80
DVD-RW - $50
geforce 7800GTX OC - $550

thats less than 1400 dollars!

Just add a monitor for $400, windows for 100, and you end up paying 1900

Unless he is proficient with computer hardware I would go with the Asus board. The DFI is an enthusiast board and can be a pain unless you set it up properly. The only advantage DFI has over ASUS is overclockability.
