Fujitsu Siemens 3438G

Thread Starter
Hi this is my first post, so I am not sure if it is appropriate for me to post this here. But basically I am from the UK and about to start University in September and am interested in the 3438G model with the following specs:

http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Fujit.../version-1.asp

However this site no longer stocks this model, so I was wondering if anyone knows of a similar site which stocks this model for a similar price? Obviously I would prefer to pay as less as possible as I am going to University.

Also could someone tell me if the RAM makes too much difference as I have seen some sites clock it as 400mhz and others at 533?

And again if possible can someone tell me whether the model on the site I have pasted above is actually running the 400 or 533? The site doesn't actually mention whether it is DDR2 memory as well, so do I just assume it is DDR2 memory?

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies to this thread; as this is going to be my first laptop, so I want to make it a good one. I want one which is capable of running the newest games without hesitation, running dvds, word processing, mp3s, etc.

Ask these questions here: http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=91272,
more peoples will see it that way (I'm pretty sure).

I'm new here too, but I found this:

http://www.nice-pc.co.uk/amilo_m_343...gb_1024mb.html

I suppose I could o/c the 2.0Ghz, couldn't I? And does the 3483 (not the 4438) have MXM?

I read that massive review thread and didn't get a definitive answer for either of those. Looks like gaming performance will rule with this thing though.

UK31337.

P.S., I'm also off to Uni in September, where are you going?

Yes I found this site and other sites which offer it at this price. But if you went to the link I posted up. From Laptops Direct you get the same model cheaper, and with 2 HDDS combined to 120GB and you have the option to raid them.

See I don't wanna pay £100-200 more when I already know there is A site out there that sells it cheaper you know?

I am off to the University of Kent for Biochemistry, and yourself?

Yeah, the LaptopsDirect one disappeared within the last 4-5 days, it was there on last Saturday.

I'm off to St. Andrews Uni for Computer Science, so I want the power in the laptop

Yeah well I checked last night and it was still there, so I think it got removed from the site last night to sometime today.

Hopefully they get more stock or put it back on the site before the start of uni. Also the customer support on the phone is pretty shoddy with laptops direct. I rang up earlier today and like 5 days ago, and always when I ask a question the people on the phone respond "if its not on the site we don't know..." some support...

Overclocking isn't that simple with the Pentium M, but unfortunately I can't tell you much more about it... (I would if I knew). The most common overclock with the PM (as far as I know) is to buy an 400Mhz FSB (front side bus) Pentium M processor, and then set the FSB to 533Mhz.

However, the processor in the deal you linked is a 533 MHz version so you just can't overclock it this way.

The graphics card is identical in both models.

What about RAM? I want 533 ram but it doesn't say whether the RAM is even DDR2?

But the 2.0Ghz is how fast? Roughly identical to a P4 3.2Ghz isn't it?

I probably won't need to overclock, but it would be nice
