After 3 month of evaluation I go for the I 9300! Phew...

Hi all,

after a long evaluation phase for a new mobile device I finally ordered now the Inspiron 9300.

My Thinkpad x21 has now reached an age where working with it (i primarely use it for web, email and word processing) is no fun anymore as applications are getting more demanding.

First I thought I should replace my Thinkpad x21 with a new handy notebook. So I decided to go for a Tablet PC (cause that technology is sweet). The only Tablet PC that had my interest was the Toshiba Portégé m200 with a SXGA+ resolution all other only have a XGA resolution. But then (short before ordering) I considered 3000.- $ a little to much for only having the possiblity to improve my handwriting.

Because IBM TP have IMO the best mouse replacement (Trackpoint) and I have been used to that (if you use it once...you will never like to give it away again!) I decided to go for an IBM Thinkpad again. An TP R52 with a PM-2.0 GHz and an ATI X300 128 MB GPU and an SXGA+ resolution. So I checked for some reviews on that GPU and found that it has not that good performance as one wants. Then again I checked for a better IBM TP and found the TP T43p with a FireGL GPU which matched my needs. But the price was 5000.- $!!!

After that shock I searched for a notebook with a very good price performance ratio. And seeked of course at the dell hompage for a nice lappy.
First I checked the I6000 but have seen the X300 again as highest possiblity for that one. Going one step higher I found the I9300 which can be ordered with a GeForce 6800 go. Then I thought: hey why not replace my desktop with that one (P4-2.6 GHz, 1 GB, GeForce 6800 128 MB). So I have read many many reviews about that notebook and have finally also found that forum which I have been read for over a month now to make up my mind.

I was very ambivalent between the 9300 and the XPS Gen2. Should I take a lappy with a GPU some better as my Desktop, or should I take a lappy with the strongest GPU available...after reading the pros and cons of both systems, I decided to go for the I9300 because I am not that hardcore in gaming...but like to game once in a while (GTA:SA, HL2, C&C, etc.).

That is what I ordered:
Dell Inspiron 9300
-MS Win XP Pro
-PM-2.13 GHz
-1024 MB RAM
-80 GB 5k4 HD
-GeForce 6800 go
-WUXGA display
-802.11b/g WiFi
-Bluetooth
-3 years @home warranty and complete-care
-DVD-RW drive
-6 and 9 cells batteries

So thank you all for answering all my questions (actively and passively )

Nice, when i ordered mine it wasnt meant to be a desktop replacement but it has pretty much ended up being one only thing i might have done differently is got a 7200rpm HD and downsized the ram to 256 and upgraded when i received the laptop for a much much cheaper price

Unfortunately the lappy won't be cheaper if I had chosen less memory... (dell pricing policy...very lousy!).
