3 year warranty or Free 19" LCD - which to get?

Thread Starter
I ordered a fully loaded XPS 600 in the EPP section last week that included a 3 year warranty for $2868.

I priced the same machine but with 1 year warranty and FREE 19" LCD in Dell Home and after coupons it comes out to $2892.

If I get the LCD I'd just end up selling it to bring my final cost down since I already have a 24" LCD.

I also rarely keep a system for more than a year but figure the warranty might help with resale value.

Any thoughts on which system to keep?
Thanks.

Are we talking desktop, here? If it's a desktop, then hardware failure rates seem to be lower, and a lot more affordable to replace yourself if they do occur, in my estimation.

I've owned three desktops in my life. First one went into retirement without dying; second one... wait a sec, lol, I've only owned two desktops. Oops. Anyways, the second one was going strong until dust buildup killed my power supply (a high quality Enermax, too! We should have vacuumed a lot more frequently, lol) and took the motherboard along with it. Total cost of that: like, motherboard + new power supply + labour = $170 CDN or something. But that probably won't happen to you unless you live in a fairly dusty carpeted place that you don't vacuum and you don't clean/blow out your case and power supply semi-frequently (once every 6 months is what ppl tell you to shoot for).

Oh yeah, and my computer was just over 3 years old when that happened (so I had to pay for the labour, cause I had a 3 year labour warranty [1 year parts] from the place that I got it made at [custom rig]).

Since you have the 24 inch already.
Warranty of course

Or, you could always get the LCD, sell it, and purchase an extension to the warranty.

i've built about 4 desktops for my family to use (mine, my moms, my brothers, my sister's) plus numerous others for my friends, i've yet had a part fail except my mobo after 2 years of use (constantly on) finally failed, one of the systems is about to turn 5, my current rig is at 3 years and strong, my brother's and my sisters are only 4 months old. So i wouldn't get a warranty for a desktop, but then again you aren't building it, so if the guy at dell does build it and messes it up (somehow?) then that would suck. but whatever.

Yeah, its a different story with desktops. My dads Dimension 8200 is still going strong after 4 years. My laptop has had two CDRW/DVD replacements, and a replaced screen bezel (it was cracked).

How much do you expect to get for the monitor?

WHOA WHOA WAIT A MINUTE< these guys are stoopid telling you to go with the warrranty, think about it, you can get the free 19 inch lcd now and sell it or keep it, you can always add an extended warranty later before the standard warranty runs out. DUHHHH YOU CAN HAVE BOTH THIS WAY

Besides, if youre only gonna keep the system for a year, it makes no sense to buy a three year warranty, buy a better video card or something else if you want to add resale value to your system.
