It handles everything I've thrown at it so far, and that's a considerable amount.

Love this computer.

Tried the latest age of empires 3 demo, and works great, (a little hacking around because of there widescreen bug, but very easy to get around.)

Turned everythng up high except shadows I put on medium, and works great.

Doom3 runs at 1280 X 1024, High Level Detail, and everything on, and it just plays so great. (Remember that I have the 256MB go6600). No slow down what so ever, I just show anyone interested in a laptop this game at this resolution, and they just sh*t themselves.

(Imagine what Ultra High Level would be like, but I believe you need a 512 mb Workstation card for that one? )

I've been eyeing this one but I was thinking more about the 15.4" M40, mainly because this one states that it's an x600 SE which is like ATI's version of Intel's Celeron or Nvidia's 'MX' series from what I understand. If this is incorrect please let me know, because size wise the M40 doesn't seem to be much smaller, but it does have a 6600Go option... just wish it had DDR2 as well.

Also, one thing that I find odd is that it's much cheaper to order the laptop with a single 512 and select their Kingston accessory 1024MB module on the side than it is just to get a single 1024 in the machine... I mean, I know they overprice their upgrades, but it just seems crazy that they'd undermine themselves like that.

if you are in canada the m60 comes standard with the go6600....

Curse you!!

Hello guys,

I'm interested in getting the M60 (I live in the US) and I wanted to know what type of hard drive was the 100GB one (SATA, etc)..
Also, does it get too hot to the point where a cooling fan IS needed? I think I read this somewhere... or maybe it was another model ... bleh, I can't remember- I've been reading too much .

Thanks a lot!

@WhoCares: 5400rpm e-ide ata-6.
Somebody else'll answer the heat question since I don't really know, but I don't recall anybody mentioning it being an issue in this model.
Thanks! Yeah, I think the heat issue was regarding some other model .
Btw, how good are these type of drives (5400rpm e-ide ata-6) compared to SATA drives?

SATA is faster but its not really a huge issue, the 5400rpm 100gb is about as fast as the 60gb 7200rpm because of the differences in density.

M65 on Sale at Best Buy

The M65 is right now on Sales at Best Buy for U$ 1649.99 (that’s after U$150.00 rebate) (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....1122652836448).
I really like this notebook, had one Satellite before, was very happy with it. Since I need 17” screen, it is between M65 and the “new” Gateway S-700N (just renamed M680).
The GC is definitively better on the Gateway (either ATI Radeon X700 128MB or NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800 256MB Graphics) while the Toshiba has ATI Mobility Radeon X600 SE . But for U$1,650, the Gateway does not even come close (it is almost U$600 more with the NVIDIA, but slower CPU)
How adequate or not the X600 is?
And anybody here in the States who has the M60/M65 to review?

What games do you want to play? It'll handle most games well enough but don't expect to play FEAR or anything like that on it. I bet H2 and Doom3 would run OK though.

I always try to buy the most PC I can afford, even though I may not need all the features, simply to delay the obsolescence.
That said, I plan to use it to play Half Life 2, Far Cry, Call of Duty and who know what else.

And BTW, what is it with Toshiba and different specs for different countries? The Aussies got it the best: fast HDD (5,400 RPM) and 256MB NVIDIA 6600. The Canucks and here in the US are worse off: The Canadians get 6600 but 4,200 RPM HDD, while in the US we get faster HDD, but X600.

The basic economics: limit options and make as many as you can to lower the cost. What gives, Toshiba? Why can’t we all get the Aussies version?

I say we invade Aussieland and loot their computers

Australia pays a hell of a lot more for those parts, they deserve 'em.

I don't mind the hard drive at all.

ATI X600. Is this shared or dedicated GC?

I need some clarification on the GC in the M65 sold in the US.

Toshiba specs says, I quote: “ATI MOBILITY RADEON X600 SE PCI-E x16 with 128MB DDR (discrete graphics memory).” Unquote.

That sounds like shared, not dedicated card. Any ideas?

No, I think it's dedicated, I think ATI only sell Dedicated X*** ones.

I'm getting ready to purchase a M60 or M65.

What about purchasing a M60 or M65 Refurbished?

I know it's a fairly new machine.

Any available Refurbished from somewhere?

Any other tips for getting a good deal on one?

I would be grateful for any information about this.

Thanks,

Eka
