XPS Gen.2 Bluetooth mouse

Thread Starter
I don't know if this is the right forum to post this or not, so feal free to bash me or move this post to the correct forum.

I ordered a XPS Gen. 2 and it is on its way but would really like a good bluetooth mouse that works with the Dell bluetooth module. My price cap is around $60 and I would much prefer to get it at a store like Best Buy as I have a gift card their. I looked at the Microsoft IntellieMouse Explorer bluetooth mouse and it looks fine but I don't know if it will work with the Dell bluetooth module. I looked at getting the new Logitech gaming mice but I really need something that is bluetooth as I will be doing numerous presentations and I really like the ease of having the bluetooth receiver built into the notebook. Any other mice recommendations?

Thanks for the help

Bluetooth IntelliMouse

I am using the latest version of the Microsoft Buetooth IntelliMouse and absolutely Love It. MS description WebSite

I have a D800 with TM300 Bluetooth which comes with Widcomm Stack/Drivers from Dell.

Install was "Plug'n'Play" - no microsoft software or Drivers used. Widcomm's Wizard instantly said "Click this Box with your newly installed mouse".

It uses all the features set in the ALPS Driver, including "Auto-Scroll", the 'extra' thumb buttons default to fwd/bk in Browser, if you wanted to set them for copy/paste or something, you would need to install Microsoft's IntelliMouse 4 or 5 Drivers.

The action is more precise than Touchpad or formerly used Dell Optical, and the feel is "made to hold" (at least if you are not left-handed) with a comfortable thumb rest.

I got it "New in Box" from an eBay storefront power seller. This is the "buy it now" site

And by playing the "Bidding Game" I got it for less than half of best store price. eBay "search" for that mouse

For your newer Dells with TM350 and Toshiba Stack/Drivers, don't know if Toshiba will run this and you may need to revert to your WinXP (sp2) MS Bluetooth Stack/Drivers. That is so easy, it happened to me by accident

(I went back to Widcomm for my GPS's needs.)

Thanks for the reply. I currently have the Microsoft Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer 2.0 for my dekstop but I need a wireless mouse for my notebook as I will be doing many presentations and plan on playing many games. I didn't know if the Microsoft bluetooth mouse would be any good or not. I am thinking about getting the Logitech MX900 as it comes with a re-charging dock but I really don't want to worry about carrying around another power cord when I go on trips.

well I have the Logitech MX900 with my i8600 using the internal BT and it is excellent!! The mouse is very comfortable, has very smooth movement, and it works great with the internal BT!

I chose it over the MS mouse because it has a recharging base. All I do it sit it in the charging base to charge, ad when I want it I just pick it up, and it connects straight up!

Microsoft's store display claims six months on a set of two "AA Energizers" I will be pleased with six weeks and will report the truth here when it happens

Logitech MX900 was the only competition for the performance of the latest IntelliMouse.

Heard a rumor that they will soon introduce a MX1000!

The MX1000 has been out for months. It is a laser version of the MX900, well MX700 really because it doesn't use BT.

I'll believer 6months when I see it. I get about 6 days out of mine, which a few hours use per day.

Thanks for the MX1000 info., I had waited too long for my Bluetooth Mouse, hoping for a Bluetooth Laser Mouse. Saw they had a 'wireless' but would need their Dongle.

My new IntelliMouse has only just past three weeks (24/7) on the Energizers that came with it, will report when they are discharged.

edit; just past one month now with Energizer Bunny still hopping

Yeah, I wonder when they will bring out a BT version of the MX1000. Being able to use the mouse with the builtin bluetooth is a big feature for me, otherwise I would just use a corded one. This way, I can just open up my laptop, jiggle the mouse, and 3 secs later it is all working! Gotta love it

Same here, I love the MX900. It's little out of your price range, but it is a great mouse. I bought it at www.zipzoomfly.com for $76 shipped.

Yup, the MX900 is super!!

Have the MX900 also here =D Love it! I doubt they'll port a MX1000 into bluetooth though, as the bluetooth bandwidth is the choking point for a smooth, high resolution mouse. Even though I love the MX900, I still love my MX510 even more. It's just smoother =)

PS- Replace the 1800mAh batteries that come with the MX900 with 2500mAh rechargeables. Your mouse will last much longer per charge.

Microsoft sells the identical looking 'Wireless' mouse for one third the price of the Bluetooth version.

Some have complained that the MS Wireless was 'slow' but my MS Bluetooth is very fast and super smooth, as well as precise (compared to Dell USB Optical). The precision is appreciated, for example, in setting size of an area of a map to 399.6 miles compared to a jump between 394 and 405 with other mice.

I see that Logitech says the 'G7' is for Right Hand use, sure wish it were Bluetooth. {link to G7}

I had waited too long for a Bluetooth Lazer version and just LOVE the latest IntelliMouse Bluetooth.

I had chosen the IntelliMouse over the MX900 based on the 'Feel' of it in my right hand.

"Logitech wins the design contest hands down - it's a lot sleeker looking and offers much better styling. This styling does come at the price of a bit lower ergonomics however."

Just past one month now on the included pair of AA Energizers

I got the bluetake BT510 little more than a month ago and have been very pleased with it. I have my laptop on campus with me all day so I wanted a more portable mouse with an on/off switch (with the logitech and microsoft don't have). Was looking at the microsoft but the on/off thing was important to me, plus this mouse isn't as big, but it's also not so small like some of these portable units where it's to hard to use them. Uses two AAA's, and includes a little cable to power the mouse from a usb port if you needed.

The included set of Energizers (2 xAA's) lasted six weeks and five days for my heavy use.
I would not doubt that I 'played' with it probably four times the 'average use' that MS relied on for their "six month" life.

Installed Costco Alkaline replacements and will track their life prior to possible switch to NiMH rechargable.

Evidently the MX1000 (Bluetooth) in that rumor was this:

Logitech Bluetooth Deskset w/Laser Mouse{HERE}

According to Logitech, the above (including a Bluetooth MX1000) will be out soon.

Logitech's MX900 has been discontinued in favor of a soon to be available 'V270' Bluetooth Notebook Optical Mouse that is smaller and cheaper ($50) than the '900' using Your 'built-in' Bluetooth and Alkaline batteries,
downside is no fwd/bck buttons.
Upside is that leftover MX900's should be available at a bargan price and they are still the 'second best' Bluetooth in the "Full Size" catagory with 'extra buttons'.
Some users have trouble with the IntelliMouse's "Smooth Scrolling Wheel" for Gaming and MX900 would be 'first best' for them.

It is exactly that smooth (and fast) action and terrific 'feel' that keeps my right hand glued to it and killing the battery.

{HERE} is Tom's Hardware; Mouse information guide.
This informative site also has (on the page linked above) a Mouse Rate Speed Checker utility that will clock the speed of your mouse, touchpad or stick faster than the eye can see.
