random bluescreens.

hi all,..

i was getting random blue screens on my laptop. it occured sometimes when starting up, sometimes while working in windows. Every now and then it was working fine for a couple hours. But running virus software or system diagnos software, etc almost always ended up in a blue screen. I got all kinds of differenet error messages. (ntfs.sys, irq not less or equal, bad pool caller, win32.sys, afd.sys, tdi.sys, lvcm.sys, and many more)

I took it to the computer repair place. They said it was the memory, so I got new memory. Nothing changed. I brought it back to the store, and they said that they dont know whats wrong with it but they guess it might be the motherboard. So i took it to geek squad. They said that the harddrive is the problem, so I bought a new harddrive. Now when I am trying to put a new windows installation on the new harddrive it is still giving me a blue screen, or just reboots, etc. (at least not the software related errors like nfts.sys though, so it must be a hardware issue)

I also used another dvd drive and also tried without a cd drive just to rule that out. Also I tried to use a different power supply to rule that out. I checked all connections, looked at the cables etc. I dont know any further. WHAT can it be? And how can i figure it out?

thanks for reading and for any help,
florian

EDIT:

laptop: SAGER 8887 (bought about 2.5 years ago)
Pentium 4 3.0 ghz
1gb ram
60 gig

Have you ever cleaned the machine in the time that you have had it? The exhaust/cooling system part - that is?

Try running MEMTEST86 for a couple of hours. This will eliminate the hard drive and operating system from the mix and limit hardware failure points to the CD-ROM, Memory, Video card, etc.

Edit: ADDED

A couple of things that I don't understand.

Earlier you stated that you had an 8887 and now you indicate that it is an 8790. Two totally different machines and troubleshooting requires that one address the correct machine. The 8887 (Link2, below) appears to be pretty "beat up".

If your unit is an 8887, you are posting in the wrong area and I can't help you out too much (can I trust what is being said, type of thing at work here).

Good Luck.

oh, it actually is the 8887 ... and yes, it is pretty beat up unfortunatelly. I thought the new memory would help, thats when i posted the post in LINK 2. but u know the story. that didnt help, back to the store, got a new harddrive, still no solution. tested with a different cd rom, different power supply etc and i still cant find whats wrong with it. i will try the memtest next. should the post be moved to a different topic?

same here

My Sager 5690 is doing the exact same thing. Even the same error codes. I reformatted thinking it was software, and now I can't install windows without freezing and getting the blue screen. I have no clue what it could be.

MEMTEST86, is almost a "first step" check for the blue screens, unless you recently changed your configuration. Heat is the next culprit (or maybe first) to check out. Then last, I'd check that all of the drivers were installed in the correct order - is does matter.

Blue screen

I don't even have an OS installed right now on mine so there are no drivers installed. As far as overheating I cleaned out the fans and heatsink and there was hardly anything in them, but that doesn't mean it isn't getting too hot either. This all started from a damn game that froze up on me one night. I've been getting the blue screen ever since, progressively getting worse. Whether it's just a coincidence or not I do not know. I'm a drafter and I need my comp. ASAP.

You may have "fried" something while playing the game and are not experiencing problems. MEMTEST86 does not require an O/S to run.

Bluescreens usauly means failing hardware as stated earlier, in my experience I have to say you have bad memeory or cpu download a benchmark tester from http://www.benchmarkhq.ru/english.html?/be_memory.html and check the results.

Good Luck
