Its illegal, though, and keep in mind... Microsoft is beginning to stick its nose to the ground and search out downloaders, especially on BitTorrent.

Best Buy in late '05. No, in '06... No... wait...

Vista is what was previously named longhorn right?

I have a friend who installed it and stupidly reformatted, so he lost his win xp install and now longhorn is his primary OS. He reboots about 10 times just for a software update or whatever when you have to reboot to make the software run properly.

I've installed it on my 9300 (dual-boot), and it runs fine - not sluggish. It certainly boots a lot quicker than XP.

You have to remember that the version of Longhorn you're downloading is in its first beta stages--it won't be anywhere near stable until the RC come out, which probably won't be for a while. I guess you could say that mileage will vary... anyways, just because you CAN get it doesn't mean you need to, or should. There's really very little reason other than to say "I did it."

Yes. Microsoft renamed it so it was more consumer-friendly... Longhorn just sounds like a sexual reference or a Texas comment, neither of which says "Buy me!"

Even though I said it above, let me say it again: mileage will vary. As you can see, "Xaine" was able to install it fine, although what "fine" means can vary from person to person. Besides, there may be core features that he doesn't use that will crash the computer, as can be seen by m3x1c4nj3w's friend.

Thanks everyone for your help I just want to see what the os runs like on a dual boot for curiosity's sake

its best to wait till its a public beta.... for the moment it is a private MSDN beta and illegal to access and use otherwise so no bittorrent downloading of it. i've been playin with longhorn since its alpha stages and yes it is nice, i got access to it through work where they have MSDN access and are using vista on a machine. interesting although still best to wait for now.

You can always just skin XP to look like Vista.

Does fine by me. I think Vista's GUI looks good, but no need to upgrade. So I have this.

Longhorn was a 'Code Name'. UCON is another code name for SQL Server. When the product is released its market packaged with an appropriate branding and the several package editions of the same product you can buy

My boss has an MSDN subscription and Hilton has been an early adopter of SQL 2005, she has a dvd from Microsoft with Windows Longhorn Beta on it and I'm getting to install it on monday. I'm anxious to try it because it's the most "official" version I've heard of, even has it's own license key. How stable should I expect it to be? I know, stupid question.

Fry-Mann

From my personal exp....Take out all unneeded hardware and have everything unplugged...ie: Printer, scanner, usb stuff...Etc... The drivers are the downfall and I had everything hooked up and when it could not load drivers it really messed up for me...
