So how do you guys think i did as far as price? Dell dropped the Pentium M 760 2Ghz from the lineup today so now the 2.26Ghz version is up and the Pentium M 770 2.13Ghz took its place in the same price range . Dell also removed the option for 512MB of RAM with the XPS 2. 1GB is minimum now.

Congrats, on your purchase. 1gig ram minimum sucks. It is just another way to suck out profit. It looks like you still got a decent price.

The price really didn't change much. The minimum spec price with the Pentium M 760, 512MB RAM and 60GB 5400rpm drive was $2749 before. Today it changed to $2949 and you now get a Pentium M 770, 1GB RAM and an 80GB 5400rpm drive.

Thats good. The specs look sweet. You should enjoy it.

You could have saved by just getting bare minimum memory and buy 2 gig Kingston ram from newegg for about $200.
You had so many coupons.........good buy
he did use the minimum memory. 1 gig is the minimum now
And what kinda bothers me is you paid almost the exact same price as me, yet got a faster processor & extra memory. Bah I hate you!

I decided to just buy a dual layer DVD burner seperately because its $99 for the DVD burner upgrade now and you can get whatever slimline you want for that and this way i'll have a backup CD/DVD-ROM.

Wow, that kinda sucks but it is also kinda good (for me). I just bought a Inspiron XPS Gen. 2 with the following specs:
Pentium M 2GHz
512MB RAM
80GB HD
XP Home
Bluetooth and Intel Wireless
3 year warranty
XPS backpack
The price came out to $2080, with tax and shipping it came out to about $2182 which is just $18 shy of my maximum price limit. I just configured their "bottom line" XPS today with the 35% coupon (the same way I got mine down so low) and it came out to be around $200 more with tax and shipping. I knew that right after I ordered it would change, it is just my luck.

Good buy though, the price really came down with your coupons. Enjoy your new toy, I am just waiting on mine.

well for people who want 2 GB of ram, and 100 GB drive, and 2 GHz cpu it kinda sucks its now $200 more expensive.

You are correct. That is why I said that the 1gig minimun is a way for Dell to suck out more profit. They are pretty good at that.
Could you help a guy out and let me know the coupon codes you used, via PM if necessary? I'm looking to buy a similar configuration and can't get the price down that low.
Hey burningrave101 can you tell me where I can get the 40% discount Iam also going to buy a XPS2.

thanks
I just bought a package deal on ebay for $4.99: 40% off coupon (laptops 2499+) and $35 of $300. Jjust used them and they worked (just remember to select a laptop without a rebate, the coupons won't work on laptops that have rebates). A 5 buck investment ended up saving me a couple hundred bucks off my dell order.

Does anyone know what brand of hard drive i will likely get from Dell with the 80GB 5400rpm choice? Fujitsu? What brands does dell use for the 5400rpm drives?
Hello, I am new to this forum and have learned quite a lot lurking around. I too am interested in buying a Dell XPS Gen 2 notebook and am wondering what the coupon code is for the 40% off discount. I only see the 35% off ones. A PM or post reply would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: I'm also wondering how you combined the multiple coupons. When I tried to use the 35% off coupon Dell invalidated all the shipping discounts and only kept the free printer discount. Finally, where did you get the $35 off coupon and what is a Dell Preferred Account? I have an Amex and a Visa, and I would like to pay with one of those cards. Do I have to make a new account with Dell for this special discount? Thanks for any help!

that's a pretty good price, congratulations on your purchase. i'm still waiting on mine to be brought up to the toronto (canada) area from michigan.

Nice price and config burning, you should really enjoy that laptop
post #19 of 45
Okay, im pissed. I got the 60GB 5400, 512 RAM, and the 2Ghz processor for the same price. Can I complain and get some free junk?
