Do people NOT KNOW ABOUT their laptop settings?

I have seen numerous people who break off the little tab that when you close the lid, the computer hibernates or goes to sleep. Do people just not know of Control Panel > Power Options, and you can set it so the laptop doesnt go to sleep, or hibernate? Also, atleast doing it through Windows would turn the LCD off when the lid is shut, unlike breaking off the tab, where the LCd would remain on. do any of you here go through the settings like I do, or break off the tab?

I like my computer suspending, so I don't even bother changing my settings.

Wow...They break it off? Even I knew you can change those settings...

Same here, I have to carry one of three laptops around with me all day from building to building. If i had ot wait for them to boot, I would be waiting forever.

Op, some people just don't care because they don't have the time. One example is the Mother who has 3 kids and house to maintain, all she wants is her laptop to work when it does.. doesn't care about power settings and optimization... shame really.

Heck yes they do. I have my settings to do nothing when I close my laptop, but I've always been paranoid about closing it while it's running. One of my Dad's friends kept his closed while running all the time because he was using a second monitor, which eventually ruined the original laptop monitor because of the heat. But this was a long time ago so I'm sure today they are more sturdy. Has anyone else heard of that sort of thing happening?

EDIT: You know, come to think of it, this may have been because he taped the tab down so the screen stayed on...lol

I have never heard of people breaking the tab off.

Ouch, breaking off a piece of your computer? That's just wrong. My ThinkPad had software that made the "close lid" action fully configurable: Do Nothing, Turn of Screen, Suspend, Hibernate, etc...

I'd expect that other manufacturers should have this. Perhaps it will be in the future of Windoze

Breaking the tabs off!? I never even thought of that.

I have mine to do nothing but turn off the display when the lid is closed.

As for ruining a screen...must have had a lot of heat coming through the keyboard.

Mine does nothing, then it suspends itself after like 10 mins of inactivity.

But seriously - people break the tab?

Its hard to believe isn't it, but I'm not surprised.
