Screen problems on 600m

The LCD on my 600m (purchased from Dell Outlet in January) is acting very weird today. For as long as I could remember as I had it, there would be a little "line" that would be made on the screen if I had closed it for a while (and ideally carried it in a bag) about where the screen contacted the keyboard when it was closed. Whatever this was, it would wipe off with my finger. I thought of it as just a slight annoyance.
See http://www.scootinger.org/IMG_1271_web.jpg for picture

Until today! When I carried my laptop from school, when I opened it up next I was greeted with a nice surprise. A little cluster of pixels that would stay on blue all the time, on the left side of where this "line" would be! I wasn't abusing my laptop or anything, it was in my Targus backpack (with a bunch of books in it though.) Then I had to go back to school with it. When I came back I noticed the cluster of pixels AND another cluster (in the middle) and a little dark spot that just wont go away and a couple of dead pixels by the dark spot (towards the right). All on the same row that the little line was before! A bit later the dead pixels went away and the intensity of the other spots decreased (although they could be seen if you looked hard enough.)

I'm obviously concerned about this. And of course I have no idea what the problem is! What do you think? Am I at fault (by any chance)?

One problem is that the problem may be hard to reproduce. Right now it is not easily noticeable, but the thing is that it's there and will reproduce itself obviously in certain cases.

I've also had a few problems with this laptop - keyboard bad from the beginning (bad "E" key) which was fixed, one button on touchpad higher than another (was slightly annoying at first), machine not waking from sleep (heard some other 600m owners saying something about this, not sure if it's actual hardware or just software), 2 rubber feet falling off, overall poor build quality, etc. Is this normal for 600m units, or is it (probably) because I got it from Dell Outlet?

Earlier I posted it on another forum. One person said it was a flaw that many Dells have (screen pressing against the keyboard) - is this true?

Any advice appreciated - thanks!

Same backpack, same laptop, same line on LCD.

I'd like to know why I am getting this.

I have the same line on mine sometimes. I just clean the screen and the line goes away.

I had this for a while on my old 600m as well. I returned it because of the hard drive heating issue, with the new one having the same issue. I'll have to do an exchange or something. To me, it seems like...dust? I don't know, but I hope you get your problem resolved. As for the screen touching the keyboard, that might be the case. If you look at the lid a little before it closes, you can see that the line probably matches up to a lin on the keyboard..

I don't recall having the same problem before I had my 600m's chassis replaced with the D600's. But I can confirm that on the D600 when the lid is completely closed nothing is touching the lcd - one can see this by looking on the side. D600's palm rest does have a slightly lower profile than 600m's.

Okay, a lot has happened since then, here's the deal....

Sent it into Dell towards the beginning of September.

Few days later, told that the problems are not covered under warranty.

Call back, the techs try to talk to the service depot.

I am told by the service depot the best deal they can offer is to waive the service fee and give me a LCD replacement for $299.

I refuse, and it takes them a while to ship out the laptop (all the while I am lied to about when it shipped.) About 4 weeks after I sent it in, I receive it back. It does have a couple of little scratches on the LCD from dust or something while being shipped/in the service center.

I write a letter to Dell toward the beginning of October.

Within about a week, I recieve a call from them however I have to hang up because I was busy.

In about 2 weeks, I file a BBB complaint, and I receive a call from Dell a few days after. I am told that the laptops are sold as-is and the problem is not covered under warranty. I call back and they tell me that the problem was considered a "cosmetic defect" and I could have returned it within 14 days or whatever, but it is not covered under warranty. What the hell?

I reply to the BBB complaint. Haven't done anything since, but I'm thinking about what to do. I'm working on a website right now to tell people about my problems with Dell. I will also file complaints with other consumer organizations.
