Im having trouble getting dolby digital out from my SPDIF. I only get 2 channel sound from my optical cable to my home cinema. I have tried another dvd and the 5.1 works great so no problem with the home cinema. Anyone else with that problem that can help me? My 4438G is equipped with Azalia(Realtek ALC880)

Have you set the output properties on both the DVD player (on the laptop) and the control panel's sound settings? I'm fairly sure I got 5.1 out of it when I hooked it up to my brother's speaker system.

No such thing in soundmax (default sounddriver/software)
I will try the mediaplayer again but Im sure I looked at it last time.

I have the Realtek Control panel thingy in the tray, and there in the SPDIF section you can choose between "No output" and "Output digital only". Don't know what kind of difference these settings make, no hardware to test it.

Try Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Volume > Speaker Settings > Advanced... > Speakers, and then select 5.1 and see if that makes a difference. Make sure to do what RuptuReD said as well.

Just as you know. I installed PowerDvd that came later for free from Fujitsu (or was it my reseller, dont know). I changed to SPDIF in sound settings. And guess what. The Lord of the rings in DTS sounds just b.e.u.t.i.f.u.l. on my home cinema

*beautiful

If you were going to spell it out...

Anyway, you said it sounds good, is that through your laptop going in to a home cinema, or through a DVD player?

Straight from laptop to home cinema via optical cable.

Hello,

I have a M3438, abt the spdif.

My amp has 1 optical & 1 coaxial connection. Using the Optical for my DVD Recorder. Is it ok if i get an Coaxial cable with an rca to 3.5mm adaptor will this work. as Coax & optical are both digital.

Thx
