Problems with Acer Ferrari 4005 5-in-1 card Reader and Microphone

I bought my Acer Ferrari 4005 about a month ago and have been very happy with it. However, I am about to go abroad for a semester and I am just checking my 5-in-1 card reader and it does not work. I put in a 256 mb SD card and nothing happens. I went to the control panel and I see nothing in relation to the the card reader. Furthermore, I just set up skype and would like the microphone to work but nothing happens. Any suggestions?

first you should download the latest drivers and install them ...

I updated both drivers. The 5-in-1 card reader seems to want to work when it wants and the microphone still does not work. Any suggestions?

volume

this may sound like a stupid reponse but, make sure under your volume controls that your microphone is not muted. i've heard teh 5-in-1 may be poor hardware and that it may only work with specific types of memory, try calling acer
