I know that many people are going to be receving their new PC's in a few short weeks and will want to know exactly how to remove their video card to apply Artic Silver 5. Well today I have put up some pictures showing the removal of the 6800. It is a fairly simple and straight forward process that doesn't require anything but the right tools. And I do realize there is a how to on Dell's site.
Sorry for the rather large pics
What will you need?
-One small Phillips screwdriver
-One small flat head screwdriver
-Torx T-8 for removing the 6800's heatsink
Please use a phillips that fits the screws perfectly, if you use the incorrect size you will strip out the screws and have a laptop that is not sturdy anymore.
Tools I used:
Craftsman Professional 1x4 41528 Phillips http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...id=00941528000
Craftsman Professional 3/32 x 2-1/2 41522 http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...id=00941522000
These numbers came straight off the drivers. They are $2.99 Ea.
HOW TO REMOVE:
-Lay the computer on a flat clean surface
-Remove the battery
-Remove HD if you want
-Now open screen so that it is at 180 degrees

-Stick the small flat head screwdriver in this groove and lighly pry up. (Do NOT force)

-Gently pull up slowly untill the part comes off completly. Should look like this:

-Remove these two plugs:

-Gently pull up on the black and white wire untill they pop up. Do not use a screwdriver for this.

Ok, now that all the connectors are unplugged you are ready to remove the monitor.
-When unscrewing the 4 monitor screws it is critical that you hold the monitor from moving around to remove any stress that could be caused when the screws are removed. Sorry for the freaking blurryness my dad sucks at taking pics.

-Final result: Oh and BTW keep the screws in the holes that they are in. You do not want to mix screws up and install monitor screws where the keyboard would go.

Note screws in monitor mounting holes
-Remove the keyboard: Remove the two highlighted screws, pull the keyboard up towards you and it should slide out, remove connector at motherboard, it's the one with the blue pull tab.

-Now unplug these three connectors:

-Turn Computer over and remove these screws that are highlighted. Put then in a safe spot so that they will not be lost. Doesn't matter where you reinstall these ones.

-Turn computer over and remove all the screws that have a P next to them. Do not take these screws out, leave them in their holes so that they do not get mixed up.

-Should look like this:

-You are now ready to remove the 6800. Remove the 4 screws following the number pattern on the heatsink.

-Pull up on the card slowly untill it comes out.......Card removed

To install, reverse installation, and don't tighten the shit out of the screws, remember you are screwing into plastic.
If you can't do the job right don't do it. Don't be the guy that uses a cresent wrench for everything.
