Great guide! This should be a sticky.

Also - it's VERY easy to strip those monitor and keyboard retention screws. Might want to suggest trying to find a philips head that doesn't have a point at the end so it doesn't NEARLY slip as much.

Now I have a bunch of questions ... You never mentioned the use of torx screws, is it just to detach the GPU from the heatsink? And if you order a new 7800, does it come attached to a heatsink with 2 pipelines? Also (sorry), is the 9300 process basically the same and was that the wireless card you detached (2 short wires)? I heard the antennae was in the screen or something.

The torx wrench is to remove the four torx screws labeled "A" to "D" mounting the heat pipe to the GPU. Also, I'm fairly certain they are torx #8, not #7.

In any case, very nice pictorial writeup!

Might want to add an extra step or two at the end:

- Give the inside a few shots of compressed air, especially to the fans.

- Give the connections or overly dusty areas a wipedown with a lint-free cloth soaked in as pure isopropyl alcohol as humanly possible.

- How to shore up the heatpipes with AS5/Ceramique, etc...

This is a great guide. I think the photos are lot more helpful than the other how to guide floating around. This should definitely made into a sticky. And even if you don't own a XPS anymore, I appreciate all the help you provide on the forum.
