External LCD Monitor

Hey all,

I need an external lcd monitor to hook up to my laptop. Im looking for a 1280x800 widescreen. If possible, I'd like a gloss type screen, but this is NOT a requirement. I also lean towards Samsung, but am not married to them

thanks,

Do you really need it to be 1280x800? Why not just go for a normal LCD of 1280x1024, then resize the window to 1280x800, and there you go

as always with any request for suggestions, we need to know your budget

you have your cheapo $200 office depot clearance screens, and then you have your $1200 pro graphics precision screens

great monitor with excellent specs.

Doesn't seem like the coupons have expired yet, though I haven't tried.

8ms rocks...but the question is, can I run 1280x800 natively on that...

other than that, it seems perfect

Also, any other suggestions

No it would not cause black bars because you can set different resolutions on both monitors. You do not have to run the external monitor the same resolution as the laptop LCD. You can run them at seperate resolutions. On a 1280x1024 17" LCD, you should be fine, since you are getting a higher resolution than a 1280x800 widescreen.

In that case, I might go for the samsung. However, if anyone has any toerh ideas on native 1280x800, let me know...

Just go for the samsung, keep in mind that 1280x1024 is a BIGGER RESOLUTION than 1280x800 (therefore, more screen real estate). The External monitor DOES NOT NEEED TO RUN THE SAME RESOLUTION AS THE LAPTOP LCD.
