4680 very slow

Thread Starter
I have a Sager 4680 which I have loved for the past 2 years. About 2 weeks ago computer started acting really slow. Run all the nessesary utilities and Antiv but nothing changed. Tried to reinstall WinXP but it freezes half way through. Checked HDD with different programs and it seemed to be fine even did a format so I think it must be the Ram. Was able to run win98 but not XP I presently have 1X 512MB 2.5V DDR333 cannot tell the make.
I want to know how much higher can I go? Will DDR2,DDR400 or 533 work? I want to purchase a new ram from www.newegg.com. Can anyone help with any recomendations?
This may sound like a stupid que but I will still ask, is it possible to upgrade the Video Card? I presently have ATI9000.
Thanks to everyone for the help

i had a problem very similar to this last year. the hard drive light would stay stuck on, and the computer would go so slow it was compltely unusable. I sent it back to sager to have the hard drive replaced and it was fine until a few days ago, where im having the exact same issues with it. and now sager wont do anything about it.

I never tried it the last time i had the problem, but i tried replacing the ram this time, and it did nothing

Try booting up in safe mode and use msconfig to delete all unwanted startup programs.

Run an antispyware program and delete all bad processes using the ctrl alt delete.

Maybe that helps.

Before replacing the RAM, test your RAM too.
Burn Memtest86 to a CD and boot up with it, let it run and it will tell you if your RAM is the culprit or not. If it is, replace it, if it isn't, consider checking the rest of your computer before spending money on more RAM.
