I'm sure all of you will go for ATI.

I am comparing the 2 laptops, Sony Vaio FS25GP and Acer Aspire 1692WLMi (models marketed in Malaysia, for full specs, see below). Both come with very similar specifications except for designs and graphic cards.
The vaio is priced at MYR6488 (USD1700) and aspire at MYR4988 (USD1300). The difference is MYR1500 (USD400), an amount that I can get a very good PDA!!

The fascinating slender vaio's design has trapped me into consideration of taking it home. Otherwise, the aspire would have been with me now. I love the look so much that I do not mind of paying the extra US400 bucks.

But when comes to graphics quality, I started to scratch my head.

How much exactly do the 2 models differ in terms of graphics quality? I have not been trying out the graphics, the local dealers here do not normally allow that. Can I still play CS and warcraftIII with the vaio? And what about the coming WindowsLonghorn? And Doom3?? How bad is it when compared to the aspire model?

If the difference is not so much and the vaio is still be able to handle great 3Ds, I will definitely go for it. If it's just like regular laptop that uses shared memory for video, then bye bye vaio...

Please give some comment if you could help. I appreciate that very much.

the x700 is about TWICE as fast, you really should that that into consideration, and if you really like the FS, might say(i know i am being bias) you give a look at the S, its the FS spec for spec except smaller (even the same res screen).

agreed, the x700 is about twice as fast if not more than the 6200 turbocache.

i say the x700 is 3x faster at least...
it will play everything right now on the WXGA screen at pretty much highest quality..
the Sony will barely play new games..

you probaly want to take weight into consideration... if the sony is a lot smaller and weight less.. it makes up for the extra cost...

if you are a gamer.. go with acer... if you have a desktstop at home .. then it is another story

really 3 time? Do you score 9000 on 3dmark03 or 3600 on 3dmark05, because if thats true I regret buying my S.

I think the 6200TC scores around 900 on 3Dmark05.

The X700 scores just over 2200.

If you're a light gamer, I'd go for the sony and think about replacing the 4200 rpm HD with a faster one.

If you play games 3+ times a week... then get the aspire.

More than that, There are various flavors of the TC6200 The 64 meg dedicated ram one is mabey 1/3 as fast as the X700 Though I would say more like 1/4 synthetic benchmarks non withstanding, The 16 meg version is only about 1/2~1/3 as fast as the 64 meg version.

Graphicly the Vaio gets Crushed by the X700, IF you say run HL2 in 1280x1024 with 2 AA and 8x AF, your talking about 50 FPS vs like 10 ~15 FPS based on the last review I bothered to read of a TC card.

Hey guys, thank you very much for your replies. What about samsung X50? How do you compare this with aspire1692 in terms of graphics quality? Obviously X700 is better than X600, but how much better is better?

Get the Samsung. Its the perfect balance between weight, elegance, graphic prowess (if you are an average gamer, i.e. enjoy gaming every so often) and sheer sexiness.

The whole notebook weighs a little over 5 pounds (2.5kg I think) with battery and optical drive. Thats with a 15.4 screen. So you don't have to sacrifice anything. Full size keyboard, large screen, very capable graphics card, light package for mobility.

Samsung trumps all your other candidates in my opinion.

Yeah, the X700 is significantly more powerful than the 6200.

The X700 MOBILITY will get about 2200-2300 in 3DMark05.
