News update - Page 2

Actually, I'd think the new UXGA would be even better for non-gamers because text and the like would be excellent on a high contrast and wide angle screen :-)

If I were you I'd just run through the forums and look for reports of problems and resolutions... That pretty much gives you an overview :-)

The new screen, with a wider viewing angle will be better for other things too. IF you ever have more than 1 person looking at it, for presentations and such for those that use it for work, and For DVD viewing these things really make a difference. I know when I watch a DVD, I rarely like to sit in the same position for the whole thing, and moving around means I have to adjust the screen every time on my current one. Also, movies oftentimes have dark screenshots, and the greater contrast will really bring out the details of the dark colors. Just a couple of ways this will be better. This is really big news in my mind, cause it now hopefully will close the gap on one of the few advantages that the Dells and Toshiba's had, which was the ultrasharp type screen. THe other being battery life, which I don't see changing any time soon. But for the future of Sagers, this is really a good step forward. I would love to hear feedback as soon as someone has one with the new screen, particularly some side by side photos vs. a Dell or Toshiba, just to see the quality of the screen. But hey, Im not greedy, a good review will do.

Alien,

I feel your pain. I am supposed to receive my new 5660 via overnight UPS tomorrow. I guess I probably got the older screen also.

I can't believe if I would have just waited til the end of the week to order I would have received the new screen.

Greg

PS: This is my first post to these forums.

StuartV666, I don't think these systems will work on a plane because the power supplied by the plane is 70W and these systems with the P4s require at least 90W. Either your system won't be stable, you'll pop a fuse in the plane, or take that sucker down lol.

I don't have the specs for the new 8887 UXGA screen, but I'm guessing it will be very comparable yet 1.1" larger.
