i use my xps gen 2 for school, works great, battery life is fine aslong as you dont game heh, and all the boreing classes i have that i would play games in , have outlets at the desks.

If your really paranoid about battery and weight, 700m is for you!

If you want an all-around badazz machine, then i9300 it up!

If you eat, drink, sleep, make, and crap games, then you must already have an XPS2!

With the proper bag it's easy to carry it around, but usually not much of a reason to pull it out. All my computer classes supply one.

The battery life I get is about 3 hours though.

College Student

I use the Targus XL backpack to take my XPS 2 virtually everywhere.

Battery life should last around 1:40 to 2 hours.

Doing typing stuff I get alittle more than 2 hours on my xps2, but I rarely take mine to class, just to the library or something. i usually just leave it where it is to game!

I'm in law school with my xps gen 2. But i also have a alienware sentia which to me is as close to a 700m as it gets. But the problem with the xps gen 2 is mattering on what you are doing like gaming or just surfing the internet well,,, The battery life is just not up to par but,, for a gaming machine its damn good. One thing for sure is that the damn computer attracts more attention than any computer that ive ever seen. So good luck. In college where people are out to meet new people sometimes it gets a little annoying. The damn freshmen are the worst though. LOL

thats a nice hat man... dont know if thats u in that pic or not but thats most definitely pimp...

yeh im definitely gonna get the 9300 but im gonna wait around a few months and see if the 7800 comes out and hopefully a 2.26 processor in there too... dunno if thatll happen... but thanks for the info

If it does come out I highly doubt they'll put it in the 9300, they'll put it in the xps 2 or come out with the xps 3

Chances are when school starts back up (we're pretty late) it'll stay in my room...triple locked to the desk and anything else difficult to move. I don't think I'd ever pay attention in class if I brought a laptop with me, although the faster typing would be nice. Plus, in CS classes the amount of drool might damage my baby.

Humbe Opinion

Greetings;

It's my first post on this forum, but here's my 2 cents.

As someone who as been on both sides of the podium (taking and presenting lectures) there are several things that you should consider before bringing your notebook to class.

1. How big is your class? Many of the first-year classes that I teach have over 300 students in each lecture section. However, this is not always the case. If you are in a small class (I've taught groups as small as 5), the sound of your computer and typing can REALLY annoy your fellow students, not to mention your prof. In my 4th year microbiology class, I have had to tell students to stop typing because of the noise.

2. Is your class appropriate for a laptop? If it only requires you to type a few notes, than there's no harm. If you will be required to sketch diagrams, or write out equations (think calculus...you'll need many quick keys for all those symbols), you might want to just consider a pen and paper.

3. Will your laptop really help you? Let's face it, if you use your laptop, will you really continue to focus on the lecture. You are there to learn...even the boring stuff. You are paying thousands of dollars to have a person like me spout out stuff that you will need to remember until the end of the term (much of it can be forgotten after that); do you really want to have a portable entertainment device close at hand? Playing games or watching movies in class is ENTIRELY inappropriate and will distract you and those around you.

Consider these points before you use your laptop in lecture.

Hmm, I can see a laptop not being as grand in math class. Alot of equations to do and stuff, laptop may not be able to keep up with the flexibility of the hand.

See since dell didnt opt for a fullsized keyboard on the i9300 I figure all that 'rest' space by the touch pad could be used for a lil sketchpad to draw up figures that u probly wont be able to do on MSPaint or something similar. I'm going to try out that system of 'note taking' then see If I have to rethink the strategy.

I type way faster then I write plus have more endurance, the hand cramps up bad when taking fast notes with a pen.

What notebook does your roombuddy have?
I take my D610 with me to campus (in a laptop backpack). I don't use it in classes, mostly because in a lot of sciences like Biochemistry I'm mostly writing out formulas, graphs, or chemical structures so typing notes wouldn't help me. But between classes I'll take it out in the library or outside on a bench and check email, surf around since there's wireless all around here.

I'm wondering the same thing... it definitely has the Titanium Powerbook look to it, but its definitely running Windows. Also, where'd you get such a large room? It looks like yours could hold two of the dorm rooms here...

I was just going to say, holy shit nice room. Nice furniture and everything. Wish my room looked like that (at least it's a single )

you guys need to move out

U need your lappy to sit at the cafeteria/lobby/park/ etc to catch the flies. Is a Chick magnet device, not an educational tool. If they look at your machine and not you, theres a better chance to ask em out and have em say yes before they figure u r not her type.
Think, thats what u r in college for, Boy.
Great yall......
