Pictures to augment this review are at www.wallmaxx.com/7700.htm
Shipping / Packaging: As the pictures show, she is in a plastic wrap, then sandwiched between two formed foam spacer pieces, inside a medium sized box (that also contains a free carrying case), which is then inside a larger black box which also has your documentation.
Weight: When you lift her out of the box, you know you have a solid machine. (Back in college, the heavier the text books the more they usually cost.)
Construction: I have read many positive comments about, for example, the lid. Yes it is very sturdy. The whole thing feels sturdy.
First Power On: I pressed the on button….and nothing happened. Try again but this time hold down on it for a full second. SUCCESS!!
She boots to the windows first time setup screen. That takes 5 minutes.
Once complete, she fires up to an Alienware background.
I will include the factory benchmark info for what its worth and then it will be a while before I can dive into it myself. …Just tried and maybe not. The file is XML and it didn’t copy / paste…I am not skilled in this area so I will maybe take some screen caps and use that instead.
It may be a while because I am currently copying my 28GB of music from my 15” Powerbook to my 7700. It’s taking a while.
However, there sure is a night and day difference between the 7700 and my 6 year old maxed out gateway (maxed out being 384MB or PC100 SDRAM – wooo hooo) “Hold on Martha, we’re goin’ to town, guh guh.”
