XPS-2 Place of fabrication? Delay from Ireland? - Page 2

Update scheduled delivery of my (dallas) XPS-2 order:
At Monday it got delayed for 2 days.
Today it has been changed to the 13th of Septembre ending again to be set on the 15th.

Phase 1 started: 08/26/2005
Original ETA: 09/02/2005
Today's ETA: 09/15/2005

Called Dell this afternoon. According to the Dell-guy I spoke 'there's a problem due to the 80GB harddisk, the motherboard, the casing and some other components'.
That means almost every single part is causing some kind of delay.

Well after sitting in customs for like 3 days, it arrived this morning!

I'm in love, the screen seems fine, no dead pixels that I can see yet, no sparkles that I can see, no light leakage (i'll check again tonight in a dark room, but nothing that can be seen under office lighting), wasn't missing anything (except Windows media, so I've called Dell to send).

Hectic with work so haven't had time to fiddle yet, just runnning memtest on my 2GB Kingston, 4 passes with 0 errors so far...

The date changes alsmost every time you reload the page. At least that happened to me. Also the Dell country websites are very strange these days. In Switzerland for example, you can't order the 6800go with the 9300 anymore, only the X300.

Maybe they are short on them and therefore the delay ?
Oh..you ordered an XPS2...well cant be a 6800go problem then

Hi,

I'm from Belgium and I also have the same problem.
I ordered my XPS GEN 2 on 8/25/2005.
It was supposed to be deliverd on 9/4/2005.
Now I'm checking the oder status multiple times a day and it has been stuck on 9/14/2005 for almost a week now. I don't really find this amusing since I need the laptop on 9/16/2005 because my school starts then.

I payed 3.406 euro (=4,238.17 USD) for
2.13 Ghz processor
1 GB ram
80 GB (7200 RPM) HDD
Bluetooth
DVD-drive
XPS Backpack
3 year accidental and theft cover
...

I hope I'll get my laptop a bit sooner.

Kinds regards, Mabukay (or in dutch, Met vriendelijke groeten )

At this moment indeed every reload of the orderstatuspage shows another date.
It would be helpfull to understand the delay and maybe even cultivate some sympathy if only Dell would inform us customers about the delay and what causes that delay.
Now you don't know anything at all and that turns down all the customers satisfaction there is, if there's any left.
But even that doesn't seem to care customer care.
The other day I spoke to a guy from tech-support. He couldn't help me he said on the phone. He did give it a try but he only could see the order was delayed. As he sounded sincere I believed him. He adviced me to keep calling customer care.

if its keeps getting delayed. Check how much your laptop would cost using the online configuration, and if the price is lower than what your paying for it, call up dell and tell them the system you ordered from them a few weeks ago which is still in production because of their poor service is now cheaper than when your ordered it and you want it reduced to the current price (also tell them you want to complain to the manager about this appauling service).

Dell's advertisement on the Euro-site ( http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/pr...hs1&l=nl&s=dhs ):

" KOOP NU EN BETAAL IN 2007 "

Translation: " Buy now and pay in 2007 "

I think they should change it:

" Pay now and we deliver in 2007 ".

same here, mine is on 9/28/2005 now...
I'm giving Dell support a very angry phonecall right now.
Yeah, i just went from phase 2 to phase 5...
Now i just have to wait for the UPS-guy...
ok just made a call, seems like the 80 GB (7200 RPM) is out of stock in the factory. All the people who have ordered that type of HDD must wait at least until 29/09/05 until their laptop can be built. Now for me this is a big problem since my school starts next friday the 16th and I need it... They are now going to contact me to adjust my config with another type of HDD en hope to get it on time.

I called too this afternoon.
The 80GB HD 7k2 is one of the causes, but there are several more.
I told them that I would cancell the order, that I want my money back,
tell every person I meet about Dell's service and never ever buy anything
at Dell again unless they could give me some compensation.
I asked for a 10% refund (cash, no coupons). That would be about € 320,00.
Dell answerred to see what they could do about it and promised me to call
back tomorrow (Friday).
I'm curious about it.

Before I made the phonecall as told you about above, I've called Dell sales department. I told them I was interested in an XPS-2.
This salesman said that it would take about 7-10 days untill delivery. If I could pay today by creditcard he told me that the laptop certainluy had to be delivered within 7 days.
I confronted the case manager with that in the call later (above).

Are you sure about this?
I also mentioned the change of specification for my order.
'Sure it was possible' but it would also imply that I first had to cancell the existing order. Then I could setup a new order.
In that case the whole procedure of orderconfirmation, pre-production etc. had to start all over again and that would mean it would take at least 7-10 days starting at the day the order would be accepted by Dell.
Yeah well it was not completly certain how they would deal with it, but they are going to call me tommorow, so I'll see what kind of solution they have to offer me. I told them that I absolutly needed a laptop on friday the 16th. I'm not really interested in a compensation, I just want my laptop on time

I just want it too, but Dell is really messing things up.
26 or 27 days delay is unacceptable.
yeah since I ordered mine on the 25th, they do not follow the contract anymore of 30 days delivery.
