Toshiba Satellite M50-YK5

I know that school is approaching for some of you so I thought I would write a small review on this comp.

The first thing I noticed when I used this comp for a while is the heat that is produced around the touchpad area (beneath the keyboard). All around the silver area the heat was a bit irritating. It is somewhat controllable after installing a program. The screen is great! Its bright and widescreen. Cant complain with that at all. The speakers are superb. I thought that I would need an external speaker because I thought that notebooks had poor speaker quality but with this notebook I dont need any external speakers.
When I was researching around for this particular comp I heard that the keyboard flex was preety bad. Well to me, Im not too farmiliar with keyboard flex, but from what I understand from the definition, I dont feel there is any. It seems dolid to me.
I got the grey lid and I am very happy that I got this 1. There is no shaking of the LCD screen when typing.

Pros:

Speakers, large HDD, screen, DVD-RW, sweet wide screen, area to put in Memory stick, 4 USB ports

Cons

Heat produced aound touchpad, soft flimsy cover for the memory stick,

I hope this helps some people

Nice mini-review. I just bought my M50 and I'm going to be reviewing it shortly. I have a question for all of you who have the M50.

According my specs, I have the Intel Wireless Pro 2915abg. In the Toahiba specs it says the M50 comes with a 802.11ag. Is this a problem? Is there anything else on my M50 that's not part of the official specs? and if so, how can I find out?

Anyone with the M50, please check this and let me know. Thanks.

it is a part of the official specs. aything that says AG is actually ABG because G is backwards compatable to B.

You can buy the M50 direct from Toshiba.ca, but you pay $1699, you don't get any savings like at Best Buy or Future Shop.

Speaking of BB and FS, you may want to buy the copper anyway, BB has it on sale for $1499 and FS has it on sale for the same price, but they're also advertising a $200 savings from Sympatico for internet access, so they're advertising the price as $1299.

Don't you hate when retailers post a price that's not true? They get away with it because they put the fine print in the ad. The price is not $1299 it's $1499 with a $200 savings from Sympatico. Oh well, I'm happy with my price, I bought mine at $1599 with a free DLink router worth $100, so no biggy.

Wow 1499! Thats an awesome price. I thought 1599 was a good price 2 weeks ago, now this. Pretty cool. I still prefer the grey top over the others though

I thought I would prefer the grey as well, but after having the copper around for awhile now, the colour grows on you. When I see the grey colour, it looks very plain when compared to the copper. Not that the grey isn't nice, it just looks like all the other notebooks out there. Mine kind of stands out in a crowd.

Ya, I guess it all depends on peoples preference. I think people who want to look more conservative pick the grey one whereas people who want to as you say stand out want to pick the blue or orange. But wow, that 1499 must be very tempting for those that are thinking of the M50.
