You can upgrade notebook CPU?

I'm a proud owner of a 9300 and wanted to know if I could upgrade my processor to an AMD 64 mobile? I didn't even know you could upgrade notebook CPU but apparently you can on some.
Could I upgrade to this or a different 64 or is it not possible or compatable or something?

You can change the processor, but only to another pentium-m - any other processor would need a different socket and chipset, so you can't change to an A64/P4 etc.

So there's no way I could get a 64 bit? I know there are some 64 bit Intels but the Mobiles aren't?

Some of the desktop P4's are 64 bit, however the Pentium-m is a completely different architecture and is currently not 64 bit. Right now there's no way to get 64 bit in your 9300, and I would say it's unlikely you ever will.

Also while I'm on the subject of asking noobish questions can I get a 6800 ultra go or possible the 7800 whever they release a mobile version into my 9300? I heard the GPU is upgradable but i've seen no place actually selling the GPUs.

There are loads of threads on that topic here, as far as I'm aware the 6800 Ultra doesn't fit into the 9300 without a lot of modification, it also draw a lot more power so it needs various parts such as a different PSU. It remains to be seen what 7800 options will be available, if at all.

So both are possible to upgrade but require lots of work, money, and messing around with inside?

Have a search for the forum for details, I think even once you get it physically installed there are bios issues, it's not really a feasible modification.

Can you give me an estimate of how much work and money would be required and how good the result would be for the AMD or the GPU?

Not going to happen unless you are a hell of an engineer and have a fabrication plant.

Only chance would possibly be putting a 6800 ultra in, but even then it's not feasible after you pay 400-500 for the card.

To get the different cpu, I'd say several million in R&D. For the GPU...under $1000.

Getting the ultra in there wouldnt be too much of a problem but it really isnt worth the trouble, u should have just gotten an xps if u wanted one. and getting a amd 64 in there isnt going to happen, u can upgrade cpu's but only of the same kind. 64 bit really doesnt make a difference anyway

Why do you need a 64-bit CPU? There are very few applications that are 64-bit enabled and currently games aren't being released for 64-bit ither. Driver support is also spotty for XP 64-bit. Your better of just sticking with 32-bit for now.

If you have the 6800 Go then you are better off just overclocking it than trying to mod in a 6800U. Just my opinion.
No you cant, and just like above its a waste of money nothing really utillizes the power anyway.

Where might I purchase a Pentium M 2.0 or a 2.13 and where could I get an Ultra? If they make a PM 64 could I get it or could I handle a mobile 7800 when it's released?

NO. Why do you insist on asking the same questions after you've been given the answer?

There is no Pentium M that is 64-bit. If there is one released, it would require a different chipset, you can't replace that. So impossible to upgrade to.

You can buy a PM cpu anywhere. Ebay/Newegg/ZipZoomFly. Will run $300+

The 6800Go Ultra you could get from Dell. But remember you can't just drop it in where the 6800Go is and have it work. It takes a lot more than that.

Only the XPS 2 will handle a 7800 for sure. No one knows if it will work in a 9300. Will have to wait until it is released and someone tries it.

Yeah, I'm getting deja vu here as well...I answered his questions on the first page but he asks them again and again *sigh*

64 bit is overrated at the moment anyways...

Read the sticky about the pinmod, that gives you speed for a profit.
