Hi All,
I've posted this question in the Compaq, Toshiba, and Sony forums. Any help from those with experience with these computers would be great.
I'm shopping for a new laptop for Arcview/ word processing/ music, and looking at the Compaq R4125, Toshiba M40-JM8 and Sony VGNFS640W. All are about the same price and HD. The only difference that I can see are weight (this is not an issue once it is ensconsed in its pellican case) and battery life (which is higher on the sony) - and is an issue since I work as a biologist.
The Toshiba and Compaq say they both get about 3 hours as a word processor, and I've heard complaints that the Sony has about the same battery life, despite the 5.5 hour claim. Are there any other discernable differences for someone who is not a gamer? The compaq seems faster, but with the least real battery life. Can any of them play a whole DVD on battery?
Is the Athlon processor really that much faster than a pentium M? Will it matter that it is a 64 bit processor? Will I be kicking myself in 6 months that I didn't go 64 bit?
