I think they updated the MCE video card drivers for the 9880
I have used the MPC622 located at the link below. The date on the file is 8/30/05. I have not installed them yet, but i thought i would let everyone know.

The actual driver that is used is found on this page:

http://www.yuan.com.tw/en/support/driver.html

This is the same driver that was shipped on the CD with the MCE Tuner with a date from 03/05. I am not sure what the "Tools" actually do or provide since the driver is all that is needed since Media Center takes over the entire software aspect.

Thanks for the clarification. Actually the tools download only includes a tv tuner. My MCE 2005 installation for some reason will not display my tv tuner so i use this application instead to record TV.

Hmm...You are really missing out since Media Center has the best TV setup for a PC in my opinion. When you say "will not display my TV Tuner" what exactly do you mean? Do you not get live TV?

When ever i select Media Center then TV, the error i recieve is
"Video Error" File needed to display video are not installed or not working correctly. Please restart Media Center and/ or restart the computer"

If i restart the computer or the Media Center program, the same error message come back when ever the TV tuner is accessed in MCE.

Dont know what what to do.

At one time the tuner worked fine, then one day it just stopped. So i know the card is good because i can use Movie Maker to create dvd's from home movies.

i really want MCE to work

Thanks

Do you have a decoder installed such as CyberLink PowerDVD or InterVideo WinDVD? Media Center requires a third party DVD decoder to be installed in order to play or view TV or DVD through Media Center. This could be your problem, especially if you had one of the free versions of these programs and it has now expired. I recommed CyberLink PowerDVD 6.0 Deluxe. I use it for DVD viewing, but its decoder works great in Media Center for TV.

I am thinking this might be my problem.

I love to try demo software especially DVD players and video editing software. I have installed.

Intervideo WinDVD
AutoGK
Many Codec packs
Zoom Player
Video LAN
Videoworkshop
Nero

Like i said in a previous post, the TV tuner worked at one time with MCE. It must have been some video software i have installed that is causing this problem. I find it hard to believe that player software would effect the TV tuner but you nev er know when your using Windows software
I will probably start uninstalling all the demo software first.

Thanks

I bet that is your problem. If you are using an expired trial version of InterVideo WinDVD, then you will not be able to view DVD or TV playback in Media Center. It needs a decoder to fully function. This is why the manual states that you must install CyberLink PowerDVD to view TV. It simply means that you must install a standalone DVD decoder or a fully featured program with a built-in decoder such as WinDVD or PowerDVD.

It figures, i completely blew off looking at the manual when installing the operating system and missed the Cyberlink Power DVD 5.0 requirement. I checked the manual and there is the requirement. Because all the software listed above came with the computer i ASSumed that it would work with the tuner. I will uninstall everything with the execption of Nero and install Cyberlink and see what happens. Section 7-11 in the manual is where the TV tuner details are in case anyone wants to know.

Just remember. It does not have to be CyberLink PowerDVD, but I use CyberLink PowerDVD 6.0 Deluxe, and I find it to be the best DVD playing software on the market. You can try downloading the standard CyberLink PowerDVD 6.0 trial software at www.gocyberlink.com and see if it fixes your problem.

Good news. I downloaded the demo version of Cyberlink Powerlink DVD 6.0 and finally have my tv tuner working in Media Center Edition. YES!!! Thanks for your help. The only question left is why Sager ships every other video software product which includes WinDVD, Instant DVD and Nero with this computer but not the one piece of software that enables the TV tuner in MCE 2005! Even the demo version would have been helpful. Now all i have to do is decide if the deluxe version of PowerDVD with MPEG 4 conversion is worth the almost $100.00 compared to all the other types of "do all" video software. I have 29 days to find out

Remember that you technically do NOT have to use PowerDVD. You simply need to have a DVD decoder installed for the viewing of TV and DVD in Media Center. That is one of the reasons it has a very good looking picture when compared to most other TV tuner software. Of course, this is also why you want a high quality decoder software, and I think CyberLink PowerDVD is one of the best, if not the best.

Thats funny and does explain a lot. Even though the Manual says:
"If your purchase includes the YUAN PVR MPC622 TV Tuner for Windows
XP Media Center Edition, then you will need to install the driver as per the
instructions below. In order to watch TV channels you will need to purchase
a copy of Cyberlink Power DVD 5.0."
Because i had the TV tuner in MCE 2005 working before it must of been an installation of WinDVD, Instant DVD or Nero that caused it to work for a while. I must have installed some codec packs that caused it to stop working because i believe that all of the programs listed above are NOT demo, they are OEM versions and wont expire. I will try removing Cyberlink and installing WinDVD. I just hate to pay for additional software when i already purchased a program that might work.

Quick Update. Uninstalled Cyberlink Power DVD 6.0 product mostly because the trial message that displayed everytime a video needed to be played. Installed the version of WinDVD that came with my computer and accessed the TV tuner via MCE 2005 and everything worked fine.

It appears that you are correct Dennis and the manual was incorrect when it stated that you will need to purchase Cyberlink Power DVD 5.0. It appears that Win DVD also works along with MCE 2005 and the TV tuner card.

Glad to see you have things working now.
