Video editing with one hard drive

This may be a foolish question but please indulge. I have a new Dell 9300 with 100 GB hard drive and will be using Adobe Premiere 6.5. I have always been told that the jerkiness while editing is due to both the program files and data residing on the same drive.

Would it make any difference to partition the hard drive and put Windows XP and program files on one partition and the data files (.avi, .wav, etc.) on another partition? Would that help create smooth playback video in Premiere?

Another option would be to get a USB external drive for the data but that is not an ideal solution.

You will have MUCH better results using an external HD(USB or Firewire) of at least 7200 RPM for your media files, than you would get from partitioining.

The only real good partitioning would do is to help your drive from becoming as fragmented, it MAY help a little, but not an incredible amount.
