It would help if you posted specs on what you want the computer to be like. widescreen? resolution? battery life? small or big? it would help consolidate what you want in a computer.

lol. wonder if exe made account just to help this guy out. Awh... that would be really nice.

Anyways, there aren't that many laptops that are priced that low. Check out dell if you don't know what you're looking for. I think with 40 percent coupons and very basic configs, the 700m, 6000, and 9300 can all be within your budget. It would be great if we knew what you wanted.

for that money, head on over to Future Shop or Best Buy... they advertise a fe wmodels each week that would easily fit in your budget

Okay, I'll try to be more specific....

Im looking for a AMD (64 or XP), 512mb, 15.4", HD between 40 and 80 gig. Battery life and "small or big" dosent botter me. For the graphic, as I said, I dont need a Uber video card.

I'm going to buy at

www.pccanada.com
www.tigerdirect.ca
www.bestbuy.com
www.futureshop.ca
... and more (ideas are welcome)

Why not go for the MSI MS-1029. 25Watt version of Turion 64 + X700/128MB GPU. Probably overkill for your needs but you can configure it for less than $1200 at various boutique shops, but you might not be interested in buy from such places. I thought the MS-1029 was worth mentioning however due to it's value and all-around usage/features.

If you're looking for something inexpensive and nice, check out the eMachines 68xx series. Mine is a 6811: 512 ram, Athlon 64 3400+, Radeon 9600, 80 gig disk, 15.4" widescreen, DVD writer.

They go for under 1000 now.

Cool, another Canadian! Hiya!

Well, for $1300 CDN, you can get a 12" iBook. That's a serious option to consider. Also, if you're a university student, then you can get the "Student Union" deal that Apple US and Canada have been offering, where you get a free iPod mini 4GB with your Mac purchase (the 12" iBook is eligible), or the $225CDN off a higher priced iPod. Oh yeah, the 12" iBook is $1249 CDN for normal ppl, and $1199 CDN for educational users. 12" non-widescreen LCD, 5 lbs weight, and like ~4.5 hours of battery life, iirc.

The iBook comes with Mac OSX, of course, which is pretty nice and accessible to a Windows user, from all reports. AND, it comes with a pretty nice pre-installed software package (iLife '05... it's pretty sweet, with GarageBand 2 and iDVD/iMovie/iPhoto... etc.). It also comes with Appleworks, which I think I remember reading can save to MS Word format, also. You can always get NeoOffice/J, which is the Mac OSX version of OpenOffice (which is pretty nice, too. I think I'm going to use that over my MS Office 2000 standard version I have installed).

Canadian! Canadian! I don't think we can easily get the MSI over here, nor for that price.

Thanks Jacmert for your idea on an IBook, but I'm sure I can have a bigger screen and a bigger machine for this price... I dont want to say that Apple is bad or whatever, but I dont feel it.
