Somewhere through this forum I picked up on a post of 'the 6800go is starting to show its age'. I don't remember who said it, but if that powerful little card is starting to show its age then my 2001 Intel Integrated Graphics 32mb card must be ancient.

Who else is making a quantum leap in terms of graphics cards?

I am making a huge leap in terms of graphics cards. My desktop originally has the 48MB Intel Extreme Graphics (purchased in 2002) then I upgraded it to the ATI 92xx 128MB PCI (not PCI-Express) graphics card, even that was a huge update from the Intel option. It only took three weeks for that card to show its age. I now have a XPS Gen. 2 with the 6800 Ultra and it is a much needed improvement, especially since I have been out of the PC gaming world for three years.

The regular 6800 is still one of the best graphics cards in notebooks. In desktops, it is a little old (as it is based on last year's technology) but it can still hold its own. Desktops and notebooks are two different worlds. Expecting a ATI 800XT or Nvidia 7xxx graphics card in a notebook is a little extreme.

I also made a huge leap, from an ATI 9800Pro 128MB that could barely run HL2 @ 1024x768 at decent rates, to my trusty Nvidia 6800Go that runs it at 1920x1200@70FPS !!!!

NOT SHOWING ITS AGE AT ALL!

Well Sir, I dont know who the hell said the 6800 card is starting to "show its age" maybe they are "showing" their age perhaps???
The card hasnt been out very long and Dell hasnt offered it for more than seven months, as there is no replacement card for notebooks from Nvidia, I would hardly say its showing its age LOL.
The card works great, best graphics solution ive ever had in a laptop and great to see good graphics make the laptop scene.

Aye,

It is not showing its age just yet, the MX440 go yes, the 6800Go no

The mere fact that you can run Half-life 2 and Doom3 at above 60FPS should tell you something about how good a card it is. Let alone that it is in a laptop

I went from a 6800GT @ 420/1140 and playing games at 1600x1200, 4xAA, 16xAF to playing games at 1440x900 with 4xAA and 8xAF (16 won't work with the 80.40's ). I guess you could say it's a step down, but it still runs games flawlessly. And the mobility takes the cake . Whoever said the 6800Go is showing its age needs to get a clue, it's still new newest mobility solution series from nVidia.

mhmh....16xAF works just fine for me (80.40 driver)


Vodoo Banshee 8MB -> original Radeon 32MB > GF 4200 64MB -> Radeon 9800Pro 128MB -> GF6800Go 256MB ... wohoo...

Yup, some leap here as well.
My old card was the ATI 9800Pro 128MB.
It did work with HL2, at mid-range resolutions, but as soon as I wanted to OC it a bit, the poor thing let me know VERY clearly that it didnt like it...

So for me the Ultra improved any game I had been playing so far and lets me do everything maxed out

From a mobile point of view... I went from a GeForce 440 Go to e GeForce 6800 Go ULTRA.
I'd say the difference is more then insane!
Since I have a Radeon X800XT PE in my main machine, I am used to heavy duty good looking graphics.
But to see this kind of graphics in a notebook on a juicy TrueLife screen still kinda blows me away every single day!
Have to look/play with the Nalu demo pimped to 1920x1200 from time to time.
It's just that good!
Playing Half-Life 2 again despite the fact I've already finished it on my desktop machine.

The 80.40's give horrible banding with 16xAF and make it look like no AF, maybe worse. Take a look around with it enabled, it looks like hell when compared to 8xAF

Amen to that! I love this lappy! Kind of wish I'd waited half a month to get the 2ghz for the same price, but hey! 100mhz doesn't make much difference considering the month of gaming goodness I've had.

Matrox Mystique->Voodoo2->TNT 2 Ultra->Geforce 2 Pro(I think) -> Geforce 440MX -> ATI 9800 -> 6800go All right!
